Widgets are a form of currency used mainly by the Matoran of the Matoran Universe.
History
Widgets were based on the Protodermic currency that was used on Metru Nui prior to the Great Cataclysm.[1] They were accepted by other beings of the Matoran Universe, although most other species had their own forms of currency.[2][3] After the Bohrok-Kal attack on the island of Mata Nui, the Matoran began using Widgets instead of the simple barter system that they had been using previously.[1][4] The Matoran continued to use Widgets when they returned to Metru Nui.[5]
It is unknown if Matoran continued to use Widgets after the death of Teridax and the mass evacuation to Spherus Magna.[6]
The Matoran on other islands also used widgets are currency.[7]
