Speech
From my understanding of Reign of Shadows, the speech is not a function of the Exo-Toa, but Teridax somehow channeling his essence through them, as they are speaking with his voice. The previous statement of no speech is probably based of this quote, though it doesn't say much: https://greg.thegreatarchives.com/2003-2008/page201#post8012-line3,15 ~ Wolk (talk) 14:56, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
- All we know is that Exo-Toa have spoken in story. It may be Teridax controling them, but the robots still need to have some kind of sound producing hardware for him to manipulate. Since we know other robots have speech functions (Maxilos, Kralhi, Vahki, Bohrok-Kal) this is nothing new. On the other hand Makuta essence suddenly gaining the ability to produce audible sound on its own, is much more speculative I feel like. The quote was true at the time, but obviously such instance had happened since then.--ToaKebaka (talk) 15:43, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
- There's another instance of this happening in TMC when Chirox attacks Mutran in an Exo-Toa which is vague enough it could also go either way. But I think a more interesting clue is when Teridax himself uses the dead Vorox in RoS 9 very similarly, and while the Visorak themselves capable of their own form of speech, these are long-dead and shatter to dust at a touch. In all three of these instances these voices are recognizable as the Makuta from whom they originate, suggesting that it is the essence, not a mechanical/spider voice box speaking. --Gonel (talk) 20:35, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
- Good point about the Visorak, but I have to disagree on the implication for few reasons. Once again Teridax speaks directly through physical bodies with the text even pointing out the voice is comming from their mouths. The fact they are dead shouldn't really matter since he only needs physical functioning mouths with which to produce speech like a puppet master. Not only do Visorak have their own speech as you pointed out, but we know for a fact their mouths are capable of producing Matoran speech and even imitate voices of others, so Teridax speaking through Visorak mouths is anatomically plausible. Also, about TCM, this makes it pretty clear I think. As long as Chirox is in the Exo-Toa, he speaks through it, but as soon as his essence leaks out and leaves, he is forced to use telephaty.--ToaKebaka (talk) 21:06, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
