Taku are duck-like[2] Rahi.

History

The Taku species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.[3]

After the Great Cataclysm struck Metru Nui, a number of Taku migrated to the newly-formed island of Mata Nui. Here, they lived on the coasts of Le-Wahi for 1,000 years.[4] They sometimes shared nests with Kewa.[5]

1,000 years into the Great War, Turaga Matau was abducted by a wild Kewa and was trapped in a nest of Taku. The Av-Matoran Takua rescued Matau by tricking the Kewa into dropping small boulders into the nest, which stunned the Taku.[5]

When Toa Mata Lewa arrived on the island, he ventured inland, where he accidentally knocked a small Taku out of its nest. He instinctively used his Air powers to guide it to safety, discovering his Elemental Powers in the process.[6]

When the Bohrok swarms were unleashed on Mata Nui, Gahlok activity off the coast forced Takea closer to shore, where the sharks would occasionally attack the Taku.[7]

After the rediscovery of Metru Nui, the Taku migrated back to the island city with the Matoran.[8]

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Taku left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.[1]

Abilities and Traits

The Taku are distant relatives of the Gukko[2] and close relatives of the Kewa, though much smaller in size than either species. Unlike their scavenging Kewa cousins, the Taku are aquatic, capable of diving to great depths in order to catch fish.[4]
