Lava Rats are small, rodent-like Rahi.

History

The Lava Rat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.^[2]

After the Great Cataclysm, a small population of Lava Rats migrated to Mata Nui, and took up residence in Ta-Wahi for 1,000 years.^[3] These Lava Rats migrated back to Metru Nui when the Toa Nuva unleashed the Bohrok on the island.^[4]

After the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, many Lava Rats left the Matoran Universe and immigrated to Spherus Magna.^[1]

Abilities and Traits

Lava Rats are known for their ability to burst into flames as a defense mechanism, a fire to which they are immune.^[3] They also possess horns.^[5]

Trivia

A morality tale was told on Mata Nui describing a Lava Rat and a Takea shark crossing a river.^[3]
