Talk:Raid on the Destral Fortress
Chronology
Essay to follow (apologies on the length, but I think it's necessary for demonstration):
A few weeks ago, when I was doing some research on the Raid on Destral, I noticed that a few of the Toa Hagah pages on BS01 contradict each other:
Toa Iruini's page says the following:
- The Toa Hagah raided the Destral Fortress and stole the Kanohi Avohkii. After this success, Iruini eventually quit the team, believing they wasted time on large threats and not enough time on ever-present dangers.[citation needed] The group's victory caused them to be overconfident, especially their leader, Norik.[citation needed] Because of this, four of the Toa Hagah were ambushed by Roodaka and mutated into Rahaga.[4] In order to save his friends, Iruini temporarily allied himself with Norik, managing to defeat an army of Exo-Toa, Visorak, Dark Hunters, and even Makuta Teridax himself.
1. Raid/escape from Destral, 2. Iruini quits, 3. Overconfidence, 4. Roodaka ambush, 5. Iruini and Norik set out to save their friends, 6. The two Hagah face Teridax and co.
The Raid on the Destral Fortress page says the same, though it flips the overconfidence and Iruini quitting parts, saying that Iruini quit due to the team's overconfidence.
Toa Norik's page says the following:
- Norik eventually discovered that the Brotherhood had taken the Mask of Light from Artakha and realized the Brotherhood had turned evil. He swiftly led his team in battle against the Brotherhood's recently assembled army and Teridax himself; though their fight with their former employer ended in stalemate, the Makuta was left greatly weakened in the aftermath. They also stole the Kanohi Avohkii during a raid. Norik then allowed his team to become overconfident, and Iruini quit the team as a result. The remaining four Hagah were soon captured by Roodaka.[5] Norik and Iruini set out on a mission to rescue them.
1. All the Hagah face Teridax, 2. Raid/escape from Destral, 3. Overconfidence, 4. Iruini quits, 5. Roodaka ambush, 6. Iruni and Norik set out to save their friends
The Toa Hagah page maintains effectively the same structure as Toa Norik's page, but includes a note that Norik was active elsewhere and Iruini had already resigned the team--implying that perhaps neither of these were involved in the raid and consequently weren't condemned to initial punishment.
Anyway, none of them fully align (much less really detail their sources), so I figured it would be a worthy endeavor to rebuild the timeline from scratch and reconstruct everything with sources. Credit goes to Toaskello of the r/legobionicle discord server for sourcing these Greg references. The following timeline should represent the best way to reconcile all the source texts.
- Hagah first make the discovery that the Makuta were responsible for raiding Artakha and stealing the Mask of Light. This seems to be the thing that really awakens them to Brotherhood corruption.
- Hagah make further discoveries that Matoran slaves produced their masks (Origin of the Rahaga); that Roodaka and Sidorak, known servants of the Brotherhood, are commanding Visorak spiders, a species that had appeared years before (Comic 24); of the Brotherhood's alliance with the Dark Hunters (Origin of the Rahaga); that the peaceful Exo-Toa had been corrupted to serve as sentries for the Brotherhood fortresses (Origin of the Rahaga); and that the Dark Hunters, Visorak, and Exo-Toa had been assembled in their full might to strike at other lands (Comic 25).
- Iruini announces his intention to quit, warning Norik that he will do so after the Destral raid (Comic 25). His reason is that they "spend too much time on huge menaces and not ever-present dangers"
- Although some of the sources are ambiguous since the name "Destral" wasn't used until the release of BIONICLE World, the raid is indeed an attack on Destral (confirmed in the Mutran Chronicles) and all six are there
- As the Toa Hagah are escaping, Norik underestimates the Makuta, which results in the team being separated. In the conflict, the four are ambushed and abducted by Roodaka, striking each in quick succession from the shadows (Appendix).
- Iruini and Norik are not with the other four for "different reasons" that Iruini is uncomfortable disclosing (Challenge of the Hordika chapter 5, page 52)
- After overcoming all other obstacles, Iruini and Norik alone battle Makuta. Although the appendix isn't clear on where this happens, Greg confirms that it is before they escape the Destral fortress--also confirming that, by the chronology of the Appendix, the four Toa Hagah are kidnapped within Destral as they're trying to escape.
- Norik and Iruini alone escape the fortress. They are on their own for roughly half a day.
- The four newly-mutated Rahaga are relocated from Destral to a separate Visorak/Brotherhood fortress.
- Iruini technically quits but also doesn't--he postpones his resignation until after the others are safe (Comic 25). He and Norik embark to save their four missing teammates.
- Side note, as there's nothing to outright confirm this, but I'm inclined to think the flashback in Comic 27 takes place when they arrive at the Visorak fortress. I don't see the Brotherhood assigning them missions where they'll attack Visorak prior to this point, and in the actual Raid on Destral, they probably could have waltzed right in and taken it since they were presumably welcome there as Teridax's Hagah (and assuming they don't live in Destral, they could have just executed the raid when they were summoned to the island). The attempt to rescue their friends would be a logical place to imagine the Comic 27 flashback takes place, and it would explain why Norik has to be so innovative in his attempt to distract the Visorak--because most of his team is MIA. Finally, the backgrounds in both the flashback of Comic 27 and the setting of Comic 25 are very similar with rounded boulders and spiked mountains. The flashback mountains and sky are colored purple, like a setting sun, while those of Comic 27 are dark browns and black respectively, indicating that the attack on the Visorak gate was at late evening and the recovery of the other Rahaga was at night--which would also stand to reason if they were from the same event.
- Comic 25 proceeds from here.
Just looking at the source texts individually was somewhat frustrating and confusing, but when fully assembled, I think the timeline makes much more sense in comparison to BS01's various prior timelines--both of which falsely reshuffle the chronology present in the Appendix and express confusion over the events between the two raids (among other mistakes). If this makes sense to everyone, I'll begin implementing it onto the various pages.

- One issue I spot - Weren't Sidorak and Roodaka put in charge of the horde only afterwards as a promotion as a direct result of the raid on Destral? ~ Wolk (talk) 07:41, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- I believe Sidorak and Roodaka were only commanders of the horde (maybe even under Gorast's control), and after the Hagah's mutation, were Sidorak declared as the king of the horde, and Roodaka as the viceroy.— Surel—Nuva (Talk) 09:04, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
