Mentioned Only
Perhaps if a character's entry contained no new information about them, we could list their appearance in the encyclopedia as "Mentioned Only"? I just don't want the notation to be misleading; some characters and locations, from what I understand, gained a lot of new information from their encyclopedia entries. Complicating the issue is that I don't actually have copies of either encyclopedia, so my knowledge of them is sorely limited. --Angel Bob (talk) 19:07, 17 November 2014 (CET)
- I have the first encyclopedia if you want me to check. LockmanCapulet Crusty relics! 20:05, 17 November 2014 (CET)
- I have both, but I'm always way too lazy to pull them out.
- Anyway, you're right in that some information is exclusive to the guidebooks. My takeaway was that since it's not actually narrating a story (unlike, say, Birth of a Dark Hunter which was included in the first Encyclopedia), a Mentioned Only tag is more appropriate, as it's retelling events that we just didn't actually hear about in any story source. If, say, we used the website as an actual source (which we should more often!) and not just a reference, I would argue that it would primarily get a "mentioned only" tag too.
- The actual tricky part is things like the DH guidebook; these are presented as in-universe objects, even if they are functionally identical to the encyclopedias. Does TSO get a mentioned only tag when he's narrating a book about himself and his buddies? Should Helryx get a mentioned only tag for the Atlas because she doesn't actually appear in the book itself (and by rights, just collected the information from other people anyway)? Stuff like that complicates the issue. -- Dorek Talk 21:19, 17 November 2014 (CET)
- I don't think we should have a mentioned only tag for any person, place, or thing that appears in a BIONICLE Encylopedia. But an MU tag is appropriate if something is mentioned in a story (such as Birth of a Dark Hunter) that is included in the Encylopedia.
- As for TSO's involvement in the Dark Hunters guide book I would suggest tagging him as "Narrator' rather than saying that he was only mentioned. But I'm unsure of what to tag Helryx's involvement with the BIONICLE World book. Would it be best to tag her as "Writer" or something else entirely?
- That's my thoughts on the matter. --Collector1100 (talk) 22:46, 17 November 2014 (CET)
