Gallery talk:Merchandise

From BIONICLEsector01

Is the ideal goal of this page to be a complete (or as complete as possible) gallery of every piece of Bionicle merch ever released? Some things to maybe add to the gallery (idk how and I am too tired to figure it out right now, maybe I can try later if no one else gets to it first): Legoland Tahu hat (mentioned in this gallery but no pic) https://www.maskofdestiny.com/wp-content/uploads/2001/08/0000456.jpg Various t shirts (have to zoom in and crop): https://www.maskofdestiny.com/news/a-trip-to-legoland-california Hordika bed sheets https://brickshelf.com/gallery/Darth-Turaga/BIONICLE/Other/hordika_bed.bmp Watch and clock set (there are pics of both separately in this gallery but this is a shrinkwrapped set of the two) https://brickshelf.com/gallery/Darth-Turaga/BIONICLE/Other/clockset.jpg There is an Vakama Hordika glider (toy airplane). I dont have a good pic but two are visible on the side shelf here https://brickshelf.com/gallery/Darth-Turaga/BIONICLE/Collection/pictures_442.jpg Maybe someone can find a better pic? Some great finds here! Good question about the board games--it seems Video Games, Online Games, and Card Games don't have galleries either, not sure what to make of it. For the time being let's keep Board Games separate; this page is already pretty huge as it is, and I may end up breaking it into smaller galleries anyway. Some of these images are on here already, but that MOD post is brand new, and it looks like someone has better photos of that Three Virtues hat. --Gonel (talk) 16:43, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

Few more things. Since the MOD Legoland pics have Tahu, Onua, and Gali hats and shirts but no Lewa, Kopaka, or Pohatu I assume the latter 3 dont exist so maybe remove the "other Toa Legoland hats" from gallery (since there is no pic or evidence they exist)
Another shirt:
Bionicle text (while this an etsy pic I guarantee it is an official Lego shirt because I have the same one from when I was a kid. pretty sure it also came in dull blue, if I had to guess it is from around 2003) https://img1.etsystatic.com/158/0/13600936/il_340x270.1244918675_c10n.jpg

Just now saw your reply Gonel. There is a disambiguation page for games that links to board/card/video/online games. Maybe make more of a proper games page and gallery(s) instead of just the disambiguation? Turaga of Force (talk) 17:03, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been going through BL, MOD news archive, etc to help expand this gallery. I tried to make each year follow the same format as all the other years. For example, if one year had a "pens" category and another year had an "office supplies" category including pens and another year had office supplies in the "other" category, I updated it so they would all follow the same format/categorization.

Regarding years - While BL is accurate on set and part years, it doesn't seem to be good on gear years. I have seen gear on BL that seemed to have the wrong year listed. In this gallery, I assume the year categorization is based on trusting BL listings? If so, it would be my preference if others are okay with it to move things to the years they correspond to, i.e. Inika stuff to 2006 and Barraki to 2007 instead of 2008. I am disinclined to think Lego put out Inika and Barraki bags in 2008. Is there any evidence that all these bags really didn't release until 2008, and if there is no such evidence, would anyone object to me moving them to what I assume to be their proper years? -Turaga of Force (talk) 23:29, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Haven't had a chance to take a look at all the new inclusions just yet, but definitely eager to check out what you've found!
Re:Years-- Tempting as it would be to reorganize everything according to theme, we know there are instances where releases were delayed or items debuted early. The blue Hakann shirt, for example, came out late in 2005, while conversely quite a bit of Hordika/Visorak material wasn't out until 2006. I definitely agree that the year listings on Bricklink (and Brickipedia) are somewhat dubious, sometimes even demonstrably incorrect, but unless we can point to more reliable release information, I'd say stick with what they say for now. --Gonel (talk) 07:10, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Blue Hakann shirt is currently in 2006. I may have moved it there assuming it was a mistake, I don't remember if I did, but feel free to move it back if needed. One thing that was definitely mislisted is the foam Nuva weapons, they were in 2003 and their filenames say 2003 but MOD posted about them being available in 2002.
I have been sorta starting to get together stuff for the other proposed galleries (promo events etc) so whenever we get to 6 votes and/or I get the go ahead from you or another admin maybe we can get those galleries started too. -Turaga of Force (talk) 09:38, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Solid. If you have MOD articles, you can also add the items to the Merchandise page and add links referencing each item's publication so we have the references handy when we make pages for the items. And those with set numbers can be added to List of Sets#Gear and Accessories.
I'll also start working on some standard page templates we can copy and paste and adjust for each Merch page so that we can start listing all relevant information on those instead of the Merch page itself. --Gonel (talk) 17:20, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
