This is my big speech. My big three-year address. Yes you denizens of BS01 or HS01 who are reading this, Lord Nektann has been amongst you for now three years and is entering his fourth year piddling about. (Although I’ve been lurking around here since 2008, yikes!) This has been a great experience for me, meeting people who I can call friends despite only knowing them via the Internet. This place will do it this you. Consequently this date is the three-year anniversary of the BS01 Podcast and the 12th Anniversary of BIONICLE. Bionicle, happy 12th Anniversary, you’ve deserved it. I’m now going to talk about people who have really shaped my experience here and beyond.
Aanchir
Although I’ve never really talked to the now HS01 staff member Aanchir, I made the first edit to the talk page of his color guide. I believe I was informing him he missed a color, Takanuva’s sparkly Avohkii. I’ve already thanked Aanchir for being nice and kind in the few times I’ve talked to him. Also, his brothers are pretty cool. A family of dedicated people!
Vartemp
Who next would appear than Vartemp! Undoubtedly the most important person to my experience here that there ever was, our friendship/relationship has gone through many stages. He made my signature, which I still have today and always will have. It’s part of my identity as an editor. I remember my talk archives filled with just me talking to Vartemp, who joined right around when I did. Sometime in 2010 I think we had a falling out. It was over something trivial, and I think there were overreactions on both sides. Vartemp and I’s ‘relationship’ has never been the same. Vartemp, I miss you. I know I can still talk to you, but not in the way I once could. You just aren’t the SAME you know? Come on, just have fun for a little bit, and I think we can be the friends we once were.
Bioran23
Next is the retired staff member and my eternal boss, Bioran! The first person I talked to on Gmail, Bioran consoled me after my first run-in with the staff. (Not going into details, there was an edit war with ET. Total n00bishness on my part as well as getting totally yelled at and such. To see more about my only altercation with the staff very early in my career, refer to the first talk page archive where I get smacked down by Kraahlix.) I became friends with Bioran and applied to be a writer for KanohiJournal’s Chronicles section. Next thing you know, I’m a kind of high ranking Plast member and in Bioran’s company! I continue to work for Bioran, figuring out what I’m doing as a GM on one of his Wikis. Here’s to you Bioran!
Nidhiki05
Ah, Nidhiki. One of my all time best friends and the only person to receive my friend award (other than Vartemp, who it was made for), Nidhiki has helped me through my stages of n00b hood on BS01. From doing edit counts to posting my epic on BZP, Nidhiki has really been a bro throughout the years. He also fixed my signature that Vartemp made, and is the only person to receive my help award on multiple occasions…three times! Hope we cross paths again.
Spawn of Teridax
Or Tyler Durden. The accident-plagued BS01 member, I had been covertly following his exploits since 2008! One of the most interesting people I have ever talked to, Spawn is now my boss in Bioran’s company. Truly an all-around deep-down nice guy, without Spawn I wouldn’t be where I am.
Celu and Riglax
If nobody knows who I’m talking about, that’s okay. The balancing act duo head of MNI INC, they were my guides during my MNI period in Summer 2011. Despite some problems, they were in the end good guys. From Celu, the budding entrepreneur to Riglax the Greek master of all things MNI, these guys played a crucial role in my place in this community.
Twilight Avenger, Creep of the Deep, and Dark Light
These guys get to share a group as they are all actually very similar. They are all natural-Spanish speaking Bionicle fans from various regions of Central and South America. As the BS01 community began to die off in 2011, these guys stayed. And they stay to this day, doing whatever they can. Other than that, they are all just down-to-earth nice guys. So thanks for being awesome! Special sidenote about Creep of the Deep, he originally welcomed me to the wiki in 2009. Then Twilight Avenger got my userpage set up. Great guy.
KH
I don’t see her online anymore, but KH is the most genuine person I’ve ever talked to. Though she’s vanished, I will never forget the great things and insights KH has told me. KH you will be missed as the most sane Internet person there is. Here’s a poem she put up at some point:
Never let go of the vibrant hues of life
Even in moments of pain and strife
Life is beautiful, that much is clear to me
If this is a dream, who cares for reality?
Tomana
The great detective has been very nice to me in my stay here, even helping me with my KS01 regime file. Though I’m sad to see it go, check out Tomana’s Histories. Required reading for anybody that wants to know about BS01. I’d make it a main-linked page. This is to honor the great detective for all that he’s done
Swert
Of course Swert himself. Swert has been a great Administrator for BS01 and HS01 and the best you could ask for. From Toa V which I witnessed as a lurker (the greatest event of all time. Ever.) to the occasional Podcast guest, Swert has been the face of BS01. Truly making this place beautiful. Shine on you Crazy Diamond.
The Rest of the Story
To the readers, I am Lord Nektann, Nekky, or LN. I am the sometimes snarky editor who is resistant to a lot of things on the Wiki. Here’s a list of my views: Delete Vacuum and all the other sub-powers, Gallery: Alt Models, Botar’s Replacement and a other things. I’ve done some things I’m not proud of, most of all the early 2010 incident. I got into an edit fight with ET over the Toa Kaita I believe, and we both overreacted. Lord N00btan got de-merited and a staff warning, the smackdown being layed on me by Kraahlix. I’m sorry for that. Really, I’ve just been glad to be a member of this community.
So I have something I want to say about the Wiki and BS01 as a whole on this final day of 2012. Why are we here at all? Think about you guys, this is so crazy that we’re here. Who ever asked for a Bionicle reference site? In the big picture, this is a Wiki dedicated to a Lego toy theme that lasted an unusually long time. Bionicle is just a blip on the line of everything! When I was raging playing those terrible HF games, people would ask me: You know WHYB are you doing this if you hate this so much? The answer is the comic I used to start and header this speech: SOMETHING IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET.
What does that have to do with anything? That is exactly what makes people great editors! The greatest editors on this wiki are made up of the people that simply can't deal with things not being perfect. That's why KZN02 goes on inhuman edit sprees, because it's so important to him that we must fix even the most useless of redirects. It's why Triggy made RefSquare when the current system was working without a template. It's why in principle this Wiki is one of the most successful Wikis, and the most beautiful I've ever seen! HS01 didn't need those curved and shadowed templates that we worked on. We didn't need those, but they make HS01 so beautiful. And the people that are still here at BS01, and the reason that people like KH just can't stay away is that there's something fundamental inside the editors that are still here, and the great ones only remembered by the Featured Contributors template from 2007. Ever heard of Toritorri? Hahligirl56? IceColdToa? Neither have I!
But there's a reason they are integral to BS01. Wikis don't just happen overnight. When one is successful it is a great accomplishment because it required the coming together of so many great people. Wikis can't succeed without all of you guys, every last one of you. If you're reading this, you have done SOMETHING on the Wiki. Maybe you helped Gresh? Maybe you logged a serial once? Everybody has a role to play. Guys, we hit the jackpot here on BS01. Right here on BS01, we hit the greatest community that has survived three years of no Bionicle. That's why NOTHING can keep BS01 down. Great Downtime? We've got it. 1st Great Transition? Hundreds of wanted files? No problem for BS01. 2nd Great Transition? Thanks to my hard work and others, just recently, we FINISHED the red-links. You know why? Because we're BS01 AND THAT'S WHAT WE DO. And that's why I'm still here and I couldn't stay away. And on the final red-linked page I dropped a single 100k edit on bringing back old FC highlights. A 100k edit. People might ask, why would these guys go and fix these few useless red-links? Because we're Bs01. We do stuff like that. When something is wrong on the internet we snap into action and that's what makes us great.
Thanks to everybody I've mentioned and everybody else, you have a role to play here and I hope you find it. Well...a new HF book come out tomorrow and Brain Attack starts. The more to edit, the better! So thank you all, thank all the heroes of past and present. You aren't forgotten. You are all great and you can be proud of something you did to make this the greatest Bionicle site in the world.
So signing off with the same sig three years later and hopefully many more, this is, for now and forever...
