Here's a timeline of Rylus and Zoma's adventures, made by Zakann. It clearly shows the amount of work put into the story. Read it to understand the backstory better.

Kini-Nui-

Zoma and Rylus sneak out of Onu-Koro to see the Temple, a Sonic Blast from a nearby battle knocks out Rylus

The two Matoran are rescued by a Vortixx called War, they leave for Ko-Wahi

-Ko-Wahi-

Rylus wakes up, the three go to an inn, War decides to leave

The Onu-Matoran decide to split up, Zoma goes back to Onu-Koro while Rylus meets Tapio, they leave to buy fruit from Le-Koro

-Onu-Wahi-

Zoma arrives back home, witnesses a battle with an infected Toa, unsuccessfully tries to obtain information from Turaga Whenua

Zoma is chased by a large Nui-Kopen to the edge of a cliff, is rescued by Lohkare

Lohkare passes out, later asks Zoma to take him to Kini-Nui

-Kini-Nui-

Lohkare kneels at the Temple, tries to communicate with Makuta, they leave for Le-Wahi

-Le-Wahi-

Rylus and Tapio bond, encounter a Muaka, Rylus defeats it

The duo arrives, buys the fruits, joins Tuuli and others on a mission to fight Rahi

The squadron encounters numerous Rahi, Lohkare attacks from the trees, surprising Zoma, Rylus sees this and thinks Zoma is a traitor

The squadron takes to the trees, uses Volo-Lutu on remaining Nui-Rama, Lux arrives with Phantoka to help, they return to Le-Koro

Meanwhile, Lohkare takes Zoma to Le-Koro and attempts to murder Matau, Zoma tries to stop him

Rylus, Tapio, Lux, and the others arrive, Lohkare frames Zoma for the attempted murder, knocks him out

While Zoma’s innocence is questioned, Lohkare escapes with Lux as prisoner, Zoma is held in Kumo’s hut for interrogation

Rylus interrogates Zoma, loses his temper and leaves to search for Lux, Tapio feels sympathy for Zoma and lets him out

Rylus meets Toa Syryn, who used to be a Xa-Kuta, meanwhile Zoma has strange nightmares and Lux tries to escape Lohkare, who changes his name to Paha

Tapio, Tuuli, and others meet up with Rylus and Syryn, they head out into the jungle to search for Lohkare and Lux, meanwhile Zoma has increasingly twisted visions and Lohkare is suddenly possessed by Henkka, a valiant warrior from another dimension

Rylus and the others encounter several Nui-Jaga on their search, Zoma awakens surrounded by oddly docile Rama in a clearing, Lux and Henkka arrive and try to drive the flying Rahi away

Wahkua interrogates members of Tuuli’s crew in the outskirts of Le-Koro, kills both upon getting answers, leaves to find the rest

Rohkea, one of Tuuli’s men, is thrown into the brush, Syryn takes care of the remaining Jaga and they search for their fallen teammate, stumbling upon Zoma’s clearing

Wahkua and his Mages arrive, he attacks Zoma, who he thinks is Rylus, while the Mages go for the real Rylus’s group, a massive Muaka appears and Syryn goes against it alone

The Mages try to convert Rylus and co., who refuse, Henkka attacks Wahkua, they fight, Zoma runs off to help Rylus and the others, Syryn scares off the Muaka but expends his remaining energy

Zoma decides to help Syryn, Phantoka arrives to help Lux fight the Mages, Henkka knocks out Wahkua and takes his sword, rushes to the others

Rylus, Tapio, Tuuli, and Lux make some headway against the Mages, Wahkua recovers and kills a would-be traitor, reclaims his blade and heads for Zoma

Wahkua tries to convert Zoma, who refuses, Henkka quickly arrives, Syryn awakens, the Mages gain the upper hand Henkka manages to steal Wahkua’s blade again, the latter threatens Zoma with a deadly headlock, Henkka tells his story while Wahkua reveals details from his and Syryn’s past

Tuuli’s group sustains major injuries, Rylus is impaled by ice spikes from the last remaining Mage, pulls them out and kills the Mage, feels guilt for his first killing

Rylus, Tapio, Lux, Tuuli find unconscious Rohkea, head for Henkka and the others to help, Wahkua sees he is outnumbered and takes back his sword yet again before fleeing with Zoma, leaving an ominous warning

Syryn and Henkka take Phantoka and try to track down Wahkua and Zoma, the others head back to Le-Koro to visit the doctor

Henkka and Syryn return unsuccessful as night falls, Henkka rescues Toa Stronin from a Fikou web, convinces the thief to join their cause, Zoma recalls his visions in a dreamlike state

Syryn, not happy with returning empty-handed, takes Phantoka and flies back into the jungle, the others deduce that Wahkua is going to Xa-Koro and decide to leave for the Kumu Islets

Zoma wakes up and Wahkua reveals that they are nearing the coast, he tells Zoma about his “true purpose” as Syryn arrives, sends Phantoka back, and listens in

Rylus, Lux, Henkka, and Stronin take Phantoka and fly to the Kumu Islets, Wahkua and Zoma sail to the Islets and enter the city
