"Petty Makuta, your powers over fear are ineffective, for I am fear itself!" -Tetrax to a Makuta, The Hunt
Tetrax is the first member of Brutaka's species and was created by Artakha after Artakha was given materials by the Great Beings to do so. Tetrax served as Artakha's right hand and personal assistant following his creation.
Biography
Early Life
Following his creation, Tetrax was tasked by Artakha to contain the four crystal serpents that Artakha had created in his efforts to create rahi using his own materials. He traveled to the North, South, East and West areas of Artakha, trapping the beasts one by one in their own habitats and thus freeing the matoran of Artakha from bane of the four serpents. In honor of Tetrax's brave deeds, Artakha crafted for Tetrax a Kanohi Kualsi in the design of the Kanohi Olisi, his brother's mask, saying that Tetrax was now his true brother. Also, Tetrax was given the honor of being the guardian of the Mask of Light
War against the Brotherhood
In the early stages of the Brotherhood's plans, Makuta Kojol, Makuta of Artakha, was tasked to retrieve the Legendary Mask of Light from the very realm he was said to protect. Instead of making it a quick stealth mission, Kojol laid siege to Artakha as a whole, sending in Exo-Toa, Rahkshi and Visorak to retrieve the mask. However, as he had trust only in his own abilities, Kojol decided to lead from the front. Upon reaching the chamber that contained the Avohkii, Kojol was only left with a handful of Exo-Toa, the rest of his strike team having been taken down by Artakha's defense forces. The Exo-Toa however, proved to be useless as they were swiftly destroyed by Tetrax, who was lying in wait. Tetrax faced the Makuta in one on one combat and nearly met his end, only prevailing due to Kojol's armor cracking after being shoved into a wall, causing Kojol to discover that he was now made of antidermos in its gaseous state. Just then,a member of the Order of Mata Nui, Tobduk, arrived at the scene and unleashed a column of flame from his staff, incinerating Kojol's armor and releasing his essence. Upon inhaling some of the antidermis gas however, Tetrax was stunned as he realized that not only did it not have any toxic effect on him, it made him stronger. Taking advantage of his new knowledge, Tetrax absorbed more of the essence, unknowingly allowing Kojol to subtly manipulate him and cloud his judgement. However, Kojol was able to transfer some of his essence into an Exo-Toa suit that was hiding just in case this happened and managed to escape with the Mask of Light, although his death was later engineered by Tobduk on Xia.
Following the war, Artakha ordered all those that knew of the location of his realm to be eliminated, and sent Tetrax out to do the job alongside the Order of Mata Nui.
The Hunt
During the mission, Tetrax slayed many renowned individuals, including several Skakdi warlords, Toa and even members of organizations such as the Dark Hunters and the Order of Mata Nui. He was, however, especially interested in slaying members of the brotherhood as he was convinced that through doing this, he would strengthen himself. Unknown to him was that the many Makuta whose essences he had absorbed was influencing him, pulling him further into the darkness.
Enraged he was, upon finding out that Artakha had actually hired assassins to dispose of him as he had become a liability due to his knowledge of the inner workings of the realm. Renouncing his position as Artakha's honorary 'brother', Tetrax slayed the assassins and tried to get back to the realm he was born in, only to find out that it was now near impossible to reach it and exact his revenge on Artakha, who he had loyally served for over 10 millennia.
A New Mission
Tetrax, who had developed a hatred of all things created by Artakha, set about to destroy all such things. However, he was confronted by a member of his own species, Brutaka, who had been recruited into the ranks of the Order of Mata Nui. Tetrax easily defeated him, having had thousands of years of experience that Brutaka didn't. Unknown to him however, was that Brutaka had been experimented on by the Order and had been given special abilities. Just as he was about to land the killing blow, Brutaka unleashed raw energy from his hands knocking Tetrax backwards then unleashed another devastating wave of energy, forcing the stunned Tetrax to his knees.
Just then, another member of the Order, Axonn, arrived at the scene to aid Brutaka, only to see Tetrax at his mercy. Upon examining Tetrax, Axonn figured out why he had suddenly become so aggressive: the antidermis. Before, Tetrax would only fight if absolutely necessary. Now, fighting was always foremost on his mind. Using his benevolent power of healing, Axonn flushed out the antidermis before emitting a beam of pure energy, dissipating it. Tetrax, enraged at first that years of hard work had been undone, stopped himself from attacking them again upon realizing that although he was perhaps less strong and powerful that before, he felt mentally energized, as if he had been finally given back the reins to his own body.
A New Chapter
After his defeat, Tetrax was brought back to Daxia for interrogation and was given a choice: To join the order or to die. It wasn't a very hard decision. When given the option to undergo experimentation to enhance his abilities, Tetrax opted in, not wanting to be defeated the way Brutaka had defeated him again. Following the experiments, Tetrax was granted immense strength, Brutaka's and Axonn's ability to emit raw energy from their hands or weapons and the ability to escape from any form of traps, no matter the situation. Also, he was given limited passive telepathic abilities, which enabled him to anticipate his opponents next move and to mentally shied his own mind, making him immune to all forms of mental assault save illusions. However, the experiments had a setback: they rendered Tetrax unable to speak and only allowed him to breathe water. As a result, Tetrax had to speak through the use of a vocabulator and had to constantly wear a complex breathing apparatus allowing him to breathe oxygen. This made him vulnerable and he knew it, which made him edgy.
Mission Makuta
81 millennia prior to the Great Cataclysm, Tetrax was tasked to locate the area where all Makuta had come into being: an antidermis pool on an unnamed island in the southern island chains. He was to locate it and make sure that no more Makuta could come into being. Upon location the pond, Tetrax set about to find a source of energized protodermis in order to neautralize the antidermis, rendering it useless. Before he could do so however, the antidermis sensed his intent and dragged him into it, nearly drowning him yet making him stronger than ever before. Although he was given all the attributes that the antidermis could give him, he used his mask power to teleport out of the pool before it could truly bond with his mind, robbing him of his identity once again.
Upon his dive into the antidermis pool, Tetrax was given other-worldly knowledge, such as how to create rahi, the Great Spirit robot's true mission and how to manipulate the environment to do his bidding. Although he finally knew of the Great's Spirit's mission as well as the Makuta's plan, he decided that he would not take action as he could not shift the course of destiny.
However, he decided to pay close attention to the happenings in the Matoran Universe and was present at several key events, such as the fall of the League of Six Kingdoms and the resurrection of the Great Spirit.
The League of Six Kingdoms
Upon his discovery of the Brotherhood's future, he allied himself with Carapar's legion and rose to the rank of lieutenant in his army. Following the defeat of the Barraki, Tetrax was taken prisoner by the Brotherhood and was kept under heavy guard for the next 80 millennia. However, Tetrax did not spend his time pacing up and down his cell. He spent 80,000 years analyzing the Makuta that came to interrogate him, familiarizing himself with the routines of the Brotherhood and most of all, uncovering its weaknesses.
Mission Apocalypse
After spending 80 millennia in his cell, Tetrax initiated his escape, using his mental powers to commune with a Toa of Plasma named Vestra who happened to be captured by the Brotherhood that very day. On his instruction, Vestra unleashed a controlled nova blast, obliterating the prison and the guards stationed there. Tetrax however, upon being released from statis, quick-traveled out of the blast radius and retrieved the unconscious toa from the wreckage of what used to be the Makuta's prison facility.
Following their escape, the unlikely pair teamed up and travelled to Mahri Nui, Vestra using his Mask of Adaptation and Tetrax merely shedding his wretched breathing apparatus. There, they combated with a squad of Makuta that had followed them and witnessed firsthand the brave deeds of the Toa Mahri.
Showdown in the Sky
During the reign of darkness that ensued when Teridax took over the Great Spirit robot, Tetrax was marked as a potential threat and a bounty was placed on his head. As a result, Tetrax and Vestra were constantly on the run. They eventually managed to vanquish all of the bounty hunters save one: a Toa of Iron from Vestra's former toa team, Nyrex. Every member of Vestra's former team other than Vestra himself had either been killed or had defected; and those that had defected were slain by Vestra except Nyrex. Now the Toa of Iron was on their tail and had been granted special powers by the Makuta, making him a match even for Tetrax. Vestra was able to use his kanohi to make himself fully organic, which made the Toa's powers over iron ineffective against him. However, his powers could be used quite effectively against Tetrax.
In the epic conclusion of the BIONICLE storyline, Vestra and Tetrax confronted the Toa of Iron in a battle that shook the earth, eventually slaying the traitorous warrior. Tetrax and Vestra then escaped the Great Spirit robot and demolished an entire legion of Rahkshi.
Following the robot's destruction, Tetrax and Vestra migrated to Spherus Magna. Also, Mata Nui's final surge of power from the Ignika granted him the understanding of the Agori language as well as the ability to breathe air and to speak without the use of his vocabulator.
Abilities and Traits
Clad in blue and gold armor, Tetrax is dedicated to his job and is willing to do anything to fulfill whatever he deems necessary, such as waiting 80 millennia for the right moment, risking his life for his former master, Artakha, or placing the welfare of the Mask of Light above his life.
Tetrax's armour and equipment were crafted to resemble the many figures of legend from the matoran universe save for Artakha himself. Two Skadi skulls are mounted on his shoulder's, resembling that of the terrifying Irnakk. His shield is adorned with a carving of a Great Mask of Shielding, representing the Great Spirit Mata Nui. His mask of quick-travel was crafted to look like Karzahni's Kanohi Olisi, representing Karzahni. His chains represent imprisonment in the pit. His armor is engraved with characters from a language that was ancient when the universe was new: the tongue of the Great Beings, representing the Great Beings. His shield is fused to his arm, representing the imprisonment of Tren Krom. His sword was crafted using the armor of a slain Makuta and still gives off an aura of dark energy, representing the Brotherhood of Makuta. His hands glow with greenish-gold energy, his left hand representing the now disbanded Hand of Artakha and his right hand representing himself, Artakha's right hand.
Like all members of his species, Tetrax has a slight resistance to pit mutagen and also the effect of antidermis strengthens him. Also, Tetrax's mind is shielded against all forms of telepathy and mental assaults through rigorous training with the Order. Tetrax has multiple powers, including being able to emit raw energy either from his blades or his hands and being able to anticipate his opponent next move through limited telepathic powers. Standing at around 9 feet tall, Tetrax is an imposing figure that possesses immense strength, being able to shatter protosteel with a single blow and is able to escape from any trap or situation if he wishes to do so, which renders any trap or prison useless against him, including those created by the prison conjuring ability that some Skadi, such as Avak, possess.
Since absorbing a large amount of the substance originally used to create the Makuta, Tetrax's armor has cracked in various places, with enlarged muscle breaking through at some parts and a green aura of energy surrounding him. He can also levitate with this power. He has gained several abilities of the Makuta with this new power as well, such as teleportation and other worldly knowledge, like how to create Rahi and how to manipulate the environment to do his bidding.
He is also one of the few beings that have had the privilege of seeing Artakha face to face.
Mask and Tools
Tetrax wears a Kanohi Kualsi, the mask of quick-travel although it was crafted to resemble Karzahni's mask; the mask of alternate futures; in honor of Karzahni, the brother that Artakha once had. His mask allows him teleport instantly to any location in his field of vision. He also possesses a double-bladed sword made from protosteel and fused with a kanoka blade of corruption, allowing him to slice through any inorganic substance by making it rust and decay, destroying the substance instantaneously. However, when not using the blades power, it would function like a normal blade. He also possesses a length of chain that can produce a powerful electric current along it's length on his command, electrocuting anyone trapped by it. Also, he possessed a round shield mounted on his arm. The shield was fused with a Great Hau and can be used to generate a force field to protect him from any expected attack.
