- Slightly taller than a Toa. Humanoid appearance. Armor color can vary widely, with silvers, whites, reds, dark blues and dark greens all being known examples.
Second Prime Race

- Slightly taller than a toa. Humanoid appearance. Sleek armor with red, black and silver colors. Tubing integrated into skull. (This mutated into Kalmah's hairlike tentacles)
Third Prime Race

- Venomous Stinger Tail (These mutated into paralyzing spikes on Mantax)
- History
- This was one of Mata Nui’s six prime species. The species is nearly extinct for unknown reasons, the only surviving individual being Ravager (and the mutated Mantax). Nearly all record of this species has since been lost. They were known for being a generally violent culture, Ravager being an extreme example.
- Description
- This species is roughly the same height as a Toa. Humanoid appearance, with small, razor sharp teeth. Venomous stinger tails. Wide variety in armor coloration. Possess wing-like appendages, unclear if capable of flight (These became Mantax's manta-ray like fins).
Forth Prime Race

- History
- This was one of Mata Nui’s six prime species. They were modified by the Order of Mata Nui so that they had enhanced strength and protosteel talons, so as they could be used as a weapon against Makuta.
- Description
- Slightly smaller than a Toa. Aquatic, cannot breathe air. Green and yellow in color. Humanoid, although with froglike skin. Minimal armor. (The early prototype version of the Ehlek set seems like a good example of a typical individual, minus the spines)
Fifth Prime Race

- Description
- Range in size, although taller than a Toa. Yellow/Gold armor and large jaws. Clawed hands.
Sixth Prime Race
- Primal

- An unknown island in the eastern chain (Formerly)
- Powers
- Can wear and use Kanohi. At least one individual had latent hypnosis powers, although to a limited extent.
- History
- This was one of Mata Nui’s six prime species. They lived on an island close to Odina until they were ravaged by the Visorak. A small band of survivors fought back against the Visorak, The Shadowed One recruited this band (Including, but not limited to, Primal and Seeker), and betrayed the rest of the species to the Visorak.
- Description
- Considerably taller than a Toa. Four-legged, insect-like, with elongated skulls and large jaws. Large hands and bladelike legs. (During mutation, one pair of Takadox's legs were fused to his arms, creating the "mantis" limbs) At least one individual has a large abdomen with a stinger tail.

- This species was native to Stelt before the Second Prime Race came to exist. They comprise a low ranking part of Stelt’s society. Often referred to as "bruisers".
- Description
- Noticeably larger than a Toa. Blue armour. Generally bulky. Unable to use Kanohi.
Steltian(Slave)

- This powerful and dangerous species is kept in slavery on the island of Stelt and is used in Gladiator-style combat.
- Description
- Huge in size, at least twice the height of a Toa. Beetle-like features. At least one individual has two pairs of arms, with a considerable size disparity between them, as well as claws. The level of variety within this species is unclear.
Race of Nynrah

- History
- This species is known for being crafters. They used to be widespread on Nynrah, until the local Matoran wiped a large amount of their population out, mistaking them for Rahi. A few still remain, but they have not recovered.
- Description
- Slightly shorter than a Toa. Bestial in appearance, mistaken for unintelligent Rahi by Matoran. Has wing-like appendages attached to clawed arms, unclear if these are capable of flight. Have tails capable of firing Stun Blasts. The level of variety within this species is unclear, although their intellect varies greatly between individuals.

- This species used to inhabit Odina until they were eradicated by the Dark Hunters in order to establish a base. The Shadowed One kept one individual alive as a living trophy, and trained him as a personal recorder.

- This species used to live on an island until the Visorak were released upon their village. There were few survivors.
- Description
- Humanoid in appearance. Each individual can draw strength from a specific emotion. At least one individual is ten feet tall, and has a lean appearance, with grey and red armor. The level of variety within this species is unclear.

- This species’ island was engulfed by civil war when Ancient began hiring himself out as a mercenary.
- Description
- Vary in size from Toa-height to considerably taller. Possess clawed hands and feet, as well as tails with large, spiked ends. A number of individuals have tusks and horns of varying sizes and quantities. Doom Viper skulls are often used as helmets or integrated into armor, which is typically very ornate.

- Only one member of this species is known to exist (Airwatcher). It is unclear whether or not he is a unique individual, and if not, whether his unremarkable intelligence is a characteristic of the species or is unique to him.

- Roughly 1.5 times the height of a Toa. Possess large wings. Very large hands. Head consists of a singular, upper jaw, lined with sharp teeth. At least one individual has a chest cavity, which he uses to wield launchers. The level of variety within this species is unclear.

- Wide variety in size, from slightly smaller than a Toa to considerably bigger. Avian appearance. This species has silver, blade-shaped wings. They also have horns that are used to channel their mental powers. Long, elongated eyes and beak-like snouts. Clawed hands and feet. Tubes are often, although not unfailingly, present in armor design and occasionally Kanohi masks are also integrated. Armor is typically a dark color (often black) with bright, sometimes colorful accents. At least one individual possesses a second set of arms.
