It goes: English: Old pond / A frog leaps in / The sound of water Japanese: Furuike ya / Kawazu tobikomu / Mizu no oto. Interestingly, the Japanese can be altered very little to incorporate Japanese for "blue sea" and "ruki leaps" while retaining the 5/7/5 syllable pattern.
