"Relying on stealth, Norik and Iruini were able to rescue their friends. But they were discovered by Sidorak and Roodaka and struck by her mutation spinners. Strangely, she then allowed them to escape, perhaps convinced they would never prove a danger to her. Six who had once been powerful Toa were now Rahaga."

  • Capture the Toa Hagah.

Summary

After many years of service to the Brotherhood of Makuta, Norik's team of Toa Hagah learned that the organization was plotting evil. Burning for justice, the team raided Destral for the Kanohi Avohkii. Although Norik and Iruini escaped with the mask, their four teammates were captured. Roodaka took the four Toa Hagah that she had taken prisoner and mutated them into Rahaga, the term being a pun on the words Hagah and Rahkshi which they've been made to look like. The Rahaga were then transferred to a separate fortress held by the Visorak.[1]

Norik and Iruini, meanwhile, were on their own for roughly half a day[2] during which Iruini came on the brink of quitting.[3] However, he ultimately postponed his resignation until after the others were safe.[4]

The two Toa Hagah tracked their captive teammates down to the Visorak fortress where they'd been transferred. Norik distracted the Visorak guards and led them into a trap where they were crushed by a stone slab.[5] Iruini defeated the Dark Hunter named Krekka by using his own weight to send him plowing into the Visorak; Norik then forced a Vohtarak to take them to the other Toa Hagah's prison. Overhearing Dark Hunter Nidhiki's comments about captured Toa, Norik sent Iruini to find their teammates. After concealing the Avohkii, which was in their possession, Iruini teleported to a likely spot, but he did not see four Toa; instead, he saw four shrunken, twisted, Rahkshi-headed creatures, one of whom identified them as his former fellow Toa.

At that moment, Roodaka appeared and trapped Iruini, coining the name "Rahaga" as a portmanteau of "Rahkshi" and "Hagah". Her gloating was interrupted by the sudden arrival of Norik, who had used his Pehkui to sneak into the camp. Iruini opened the Rahaga's cage and let his teammates out; the two remaining Toa Hagah then turned on Roodaka, who simply summoned an army of Visorak to her aid. Recalling a strategy that had once worked against some Frostelus, Norik and Iruini created a cyclone of molten lava, distracting the Visorak long enough for the two to make their escape. What not even the cyclone could stop, however, were two of Roodaka's mutation Rhotuka spinners, which quickly overtook the battle-weary Toa and mutated them into Rahaga as well. Roodaka called off the Visorak pursuit, believing that the Rahaga were no longer a threat and confident that they were doomed to spend their lives as outcasts from the very society they were supposed to protect.[4][6]

Aftermath

Recognizing that the corruption of the Brotherhood had been exposed, Teridax struck at Mata Nui, successfully infecting him with the virus.[7][8] The Brotherhood of Makuta ordered the Dark Hunter guards responsible for the Avohkii's protection to be executed, but the Shadowed One resisted and called off the execution.[9] Sidorak, meanwhile claimed credit for the idea behind Toa Hagah's mutation and as a result, he was named king of Visorak horde, with Roodaka as his viceroy. Under their command, the Visorak launched a major offensive on inhabited islands, starting in the south and working their way north.[7] They started by eliminating the population of Keetongu's homeland.[citation needed]

The Rahaga were horrified at their new forms, but Kualus reminded them of their duty and Norik gave them new purpose to find the mythical Keetongu. They continued to travel from island to island, curing and studying Rahi, seeking Keetongu, and antagonizing the Visorak Hordes.[10]

About 1,050 years ago, anticipating a Visorak attack on Metru Nui, the Rahaga took refuge in the Onu-Metru Archives where they hid the Kanohi Avohkii.[10][6] In the end, Roodaka's assumption was wrong: the Rahaga successfully saw the Avohkii and the Makoki Stone safely into the hands of the Toa Hordika, who in turn witnessed (as Turaga) the coming of the Toa of Light that the Brotherhood of Makuta so feared.

The Rahaga would ultimately clash again with Roodaka, Sidorak, and the Visorak in the Battle of Metru Nui.
