The Mask of Control is one of the legendary Masks of Power, originally worn by the Mask Maker Makuta, and later worn by Umarak.

History

The mask as seen in The Legend

The Mask of Control was worn by Makuta, one of the two Mask Makers of Okoto.

When Makuta grew envious of his brother Ekimu's popularity, he broke sacred laws to forge the Mask of Ultimate Power, and replaced his Mask of Control with it. After Makuta's conflict with Ekimu left them both incapacitated, the Mask of Control was hidden away in the Labyrinth of Control by the Elemental Creatures.

One thousand years later, the Toa soon set out to recover the Mask of Control and deliver it to Ekimu, but they were pursued by Umarak, acting on Makuta's orders. Umarak managed to obtain the mask, but after donning it fell under Makuta's sway and was transformed into the monstrous Destroyer. He used the Mask of Control to transform his Shadow Traps into Elemental Beasts while he enacted Makuta's plan. Later he used the Mask of Control's powers to transform the Black Crater into the Black Volcano.[2] Eventually, Makuta consumed Umarak's energies to complete his plan, and the Mask of Control was sucked into the Shadow Realm.

Powers

The Mask of Control possesses the ability to control the minds of other beings. Makuta, in his spirit form, was also able to channel his powers through the mask to take control of Umarak, the Hunter and transform him.

The mask is also able to transform beings and landscapes into new forms, as shown when Umarak turned many of his Shadow Traps into Elemental Beasts, and when he transformed the Black Crater into the Black Volcano.

Trivia

  • After Umarak's mutation, the Mask of Control got a gunmetal jaw section instead of the tusk at the bottom of the mask, but its horns were mutated into Umarak's head. After Umarak's death, the mask kept its mutated state with the jaw, but the horns were disintegrated along with Umarak.
