The Kanohi Mahiki is the Mask of Illusion. The Great version allows its user to create optical illusions and to shapeshift into another form. There is a limit on the size of the form the user shapeshifts into. The user can change the way others see them and imitate voices, but cannot copy any powers or abilities the original has. While shapeshifted, the wearer cannot use the illusion power and vice-versa. The Noble version does not let the user shapeshift, only allowing them to create optical illusions. The Kanohi Rode will see through its usage, but the Kanohi Akaku cannot. Unlike a Toa of Psionics' illusions, the Mahiki can fool technological systems, such as the Vahki.

On Metru Nui, Kanohi Mahiki are made from Reconstitute At Random and Weaken Kanoka.

Set Information

The noble Mahiki was first released in 2001 as part of 8541 Matau in lime green. It was one of the masks possible to be received in 8525 BIONICLE Masks, in orange, lime green, tan, light blue, light gray, and dark gray. In 2004, it was released as part of 8612 Ehrye in white dual-injected with silver. The mask bears the code 2-BA on the inside.

The Great Kanohi Mahiki was released in dark green in 2004, as part of set 8605 Toa Matau, and in 2006 in set 8723 Piruk.

A Hordika-version of the mask was released in dark green as part of 8740 Toa Hordika Matau in 2005.

Trivia

• The Mahiki's illusions differ from those created by Makuta by being physical illusions, whereas the Makuta's are mental. Further, a Mahiki user must concentrate to maintain their shapeshifted form, while a Makuta does not.
