From BIONICLEsector01
Revision as of 01:31, 30 March 2020 by Dorek (talk | contribs) (I've got some free time.)

Hey, I was just revisiting the place and see the splash page, Refreshed skin, and quite a few other things have come a long way since I last saw. Looks great! I had previously had my first splash page hosted on my personal GitHub, and since I can see you've put a lot of work into it I went ahead and updated the Git repository for it to reflect the newest revisions. I also went ahead and took it off of my personal GitHub and made a BIONICLEsector01 organization,, which I believe I sent you an invite to so you can contribute to that. I also made an update script to keep the Git in sync with the production server, which can be run from SSH by simply running ~/ (from Swert's SSH account, I don't know if you might have a separate SSH account on this server, if so let me know and I'll fix that). Hopefully using Git will be a convenience and a "safety" feature, so none of your work gets irreversibly broken or lost because of server issues (*cough* HS01). If there's any questions or you need anything related to the GitHub account let me know. I'll probably set you to have full access to everything on it once you join the organization, that way you can mess with it on your own and have full control. Keep up the good work though, loving what you've done with the stuff here. :) --Meiko (talk) 01:24, 14 August 2017 (CET)

Hey what's up, it's been a while! Thanks for setting this all up, I just joined. I use Swert's SSH account, yep. Glad you like it! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 02:21, 14 August 2017 (CET)

Era... again

So, the original Era template had an icon for non-canon and semi canon media, but the neither of the separated G1-G2 Eras have these. They're just floating on the left corner under the title on the pages, which sometimes a bit irritating (for me), can't you just fix it somehow? Such as merging with the separated categories or adding the NC-SC for both, or I don't really know. — SurelNuva (Talk) 08:43, 21 August 2017 (CET)

Replace those with Template:NCSC. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 18:00, 21 August 2017 (CET)

The <videoflash> doesn't work. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:21, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

It's being phased out in favor of EmbedVideo. A cheap way to use it now is like so:

<youtube>[VIDEO ID]</youtube>

Perhaps that's the next step is to fix that? :P Also, to adjust videos, see here --External Image Owner (talk|contribs)
I've just noticed that the <videoflash> doesn't work when I edited the BIONICLE Battle Videos page. How about the video's size? I've tried to change the videoflash to youtube, but the result is too large, I don't want to save it, please try it. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:57, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

User:Meiko removed VideoFlash as it is very out of date. Swert's method works, but I think the format mentioned here allows more customization:

Gives you this:

-- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 02:14, 23 August 2017 (CET)

... Why, Morris? ;_; --External Image Owner (talk|contribs)

Can we upload the videos to or wiki? Such as the commercials and character videos. It would be safer if the videos would be native like the Building Instructions, not linked from YouTube, where (as y'all know) can be deleted over the time. From BMP I could download some of the videos, but I don't really know if I can upload them here and they would work or not. — SurelNuva (Talk) 12:04, 16 September 2017 (CET)

i think we should. but we have to make sure we're getting the original videos, not stuff that people uploaded to youtube that may have been altered in any way. Intelligence4 (talk) 21:53, 16 September 2017 (CET)
From BioMedia Project, I could download some of the original videos, and there are at east 2 YouTube channels which have the original videos, I have checked them. But I don't know what format the video should be uploaded (mp4, avi etc.) what the wiki can use, and if the video did even work as a native one, not an external link. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:04, 16 September 2017 (CET)

mah-TOW - mah-TAOW

Doesn't the same rule what you said go to the "Hau," "Komau," and the other pronunciations ending with "OW" in the BEU? WE could change it like how it's in the Garai's page and include the BEU page number. But I think the old pronunciations may came from the Official Guide. I'll buy the Hungarian edition, but it won't match with the English one. The pronunciations are the same, but how they're written is not. — SurelNuva (Talk) 15:06, 29 August 2017 (CET)

Only for ones like TOW, ROW, or MOW where the "ow" sound in those words actually makes the OH sound rather than the desired OW sound. HOW is fine since the word "how" is pronounced like "hau," as desired. Citations work, sure. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 21:18, 30 August 2017 (CET)

log out timer... again

in reference to the section that was archived... it's still happening a few weeks later. i'm getting logged out after some time on the site for no immediately apparent reason. Intelligence4 (talk) 20:32, 29 August 2017 (CET)

Huh. I'll bring this up with other staff, but I'm afraid I don't know what the cause is or what the solution would be (and I doubt I'll have time to look into it in the near future). -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 21:18, 30 August 2017 (CET)
sounds good. just wanted to make sure someone knows about it :) Intelligence4 (talk) 02:10, 5 September 2017 (CET)
i know you guys probably haven't had much time to look into this, but i just wanted to provide an update and say that the logout timer issue is still happening from time to time. Intelligence4 (talk) 22:55, 23 September 2017 (CET)
Afraid not, but thanks for keeping us updated. Actually are you being completely logged out, or is it just saying you waited too long to edit and need to reload? -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 07:46, 24 September 2017 (CET)
it makes me type in my password again, but not my username. that said, i think i have the "remember me" thing checked; it looks like i'm being totally logged out. i only use this site in an incognito window, if that means anything.
anyway, there isn't any sort of message that i waited too long and need to log in again, the page simply displays as though i'm logged out, and i have to go click on the log in thing and reenter my password. if this is, on the back-end, a waited-too-long issue, then it's not working as intended, since it happens well within a few minutes of the last time i edited something else or entered my password. Intelligence4 (talk) 00:20, 28 September 2017 (CET)

It's the Incognito browser. That one doesn't store cookies, so every time you close the browser it doesn't save the fact that you log in. -- Dorek Talk External Image 06:50, 28 September 2017 (CET)

@Intelligence4 did you get this warning when you get logged out?
"Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data.
You might have been logged out. Please verify that you're still logged in and try again. If it still does not work, try logging out and logging back in, and check that your browser allows cookies from this site."
-- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 21:50, 1 October 2017 (CET)
Sometimes I get this message. But the system does not log me out, only this script indicates that. I've been logged in on my computer for months and got this message 3 times I guess, but haven't been logged out, nor did the system logged me out. It just appeared. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:00, 1 October 2017 (CET)
Just tried fixing this, but I don't know if the fix worked. @anyone Are you still being logged out? -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:25, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
I've never actually got logged out. I've got the message sometimes, after I made changes on 10+ pages, but I was till logged in. For me it wasn't a problem, because I never got to log in. :D But haven't got this message for a while. — SurelNuva (Talk) 09:32, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

sorry i've been away for so long... @dorek the issue actually isn't when i close my browswer - it's when i still have an active session running. @mtmnc i don't think i've gotten that message. it simply shows the page as though i was never logged in in the first place. since this is my first edit after being back, i'll come back to this and let you know if i get anything as i work my way though my watchlist. Intelligence4 (talk) 21:27, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Uploads... no uploads.

After spending an embarrassingly long time looking for the upload button that I knew was there before, I realized that uploads were restricted so the button has disappeared. Do you know why, and more importantly when they will be working again?--Harsulin's Ghost (talk) 01:16, 1 September 2017 (CET)

Fixed. Sorry about that. We disabled uploads it to prepare for some backend work, but people's schedules haven't synced up to finish it yet. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 09:23, 2 September 2017 (CET)
No problem. Thanks.--Harsulin's Ghost (talk) 22:32, 2 September 2017 (CET)

So I made a typo in Kirop's instructions... I've uploaded the same file with the corrected name, so would you be so kind to delete File:8949 Instructions.pdf file? Thanks! — SurelNuva (Talk) 12:26, 2 September 2017 (CET)

Okay I accidentally inserted the good file without typo for deletion. My bad, I'm so sorry. So could you rename this file : File:8949 Insturctions.pdf into 8949 Instructions.pdf, please? — SurelNuva (Talk) 07:33, 3 September 2017 (CET)
All good, I should have caught that myself haha. Done. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:29, 3 September 2017 (CET)
Thanks! By the way, how could I re-size the external images? I usually upload large images to Brickshelf and it would take too many space on my User-page, but the 'thumbs' are just too small. — SurelNuva (Talk) 00:09, 9 September 2017 (CET)

Unfortunately I'm not sure you can. BS01's home-built extension may have that functionality, but I'm not sure it does, and the extension is quite out-of-date anyway. You should upload a copy that's the right size and embed that instead. (Haha by the way I hope you don't think BS01 is BS--look it up :P) -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 05:55, 9 September 2017 (CET)

I don't think I ever uploaded anything to BS01 what I wanted to upload to BS or vica-versa. :D — SurelNuva (Talk) 12:09, 9 September 2017 (CET)
what...what's bs? looking that one up only sends me to urban dictionary. Intelligence4 (talk) 07:40, 16 September 2017 (CET)
Urban Dictionary's right. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:48, 16 September 2017 (CET)
It was meant to be "Brickshelf." — SurelNuva (Talk) 09:28, 16 September 2017 (CET)

My last edit's summary is wrong, not the whole page name is the shortcut, only the script after the "Set:", so I think I did it correctly... or didn't I? — SurelNuva (Talk) 19:07, 16 September 2017 (CET)

Also, there will be some edits on the set pages after all, I had to edit the BI links on some pages, and have to add the EraG1 to them, I've added the EraG2 to the Generation 2 sets, so some massive edits cannot be avoided, unfortunately. — SurelNuva (Talk) 19:21, 16 September 2017 (CET)
Maybe we should make every "number-pages" as redirects/shortcuts for the sets, and after add the shortcut to the template. I added it, made the "8689" page as the shortcut for "Set:8689", but the shortcut (8689) appeared to be a red-link after the creation of the page (8689) on the "Set:8689" page. So I had to remove the shortcut from the Template:Set and re-add it to make this correct. Would I remove the shortcut parameter from the Template:Set until every "number" page will be made and after this re-add the parameter or what should I do? (Hope, you understand, this might be confusing even from me)SurelNuva (Talk) 21:59, 16 September 2017 (CET)

BS01's MediaWiki "Images" extension

Hey MtMNC! I wasn't sure who to best talk to about this (it said the author was User:Swert, and User:Meiko imported the files), but I'm asking you since you're the only public member on the BS01 GitHub group. Would you mind if I opened a pull request to the extension along with a code+review? I have some improvements I'd like to share the codebase, which would be:

  • Updating extension registry (use extension.json, provide a very-temporary back-compatible PHP entry point, then have someone load the extension via wfLoadExension( 'Images' ); in this wiki's local setting so that the PHP entry point can be deleted in a follow-up patch)
  • Avoiding global using the ParserFirstCallInit hook
  • Code styling to adhere to conventions

I also have some ideas on how to improve the arguments logic, although I need to do some thinking first on how to make the new logic backward-compatible since it'd allow those attributes written just like how HTML5 attributes are written, so stuff doesn't break. That would be in a patch separate from the other patch- if you think that the new sytnax proposal is more suited for the community portal or something, let me know and I'll put it there instead. Thanks!

SamanthaNguyen (talk) 20:35, 18 September 2017 (CET)

Yeah that'd be fine. Thanks for being willing to take that on! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 15:55, 19 September 2017 (CET)

Separated by series

I made an edit on the Toa Seal page, separating the books by their series in the Appearances subsection's Books' column. I think it would work on that way, it's much shorter, but their collective names redirects you to the series' main article,(e.g. the "Adventures" to the "BIONICLE Adventures" page) and the "#[number in the series] [book's main title]" redirects you to the book's article.(e.g. the "#2 Trial by Fire" to the "BIONICLE Adventures 2: Trial by Fire" page). My question is that may I edit the other pages too, or re-edit this page again, because it's not a good idea? — SurelNuva (Talk) 19:31, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Although the question is for Morris, I thought I'd give my opinion on the new format, if it doesn't bother you. I'd say that, while it certainly doesn't look bad, I feel like it's a bit impractical to always have to rewrite the hyperlink instead of just typing in the title of the book. Maybe we could still divide the novels by series and keep the original titles of the individual books, but that might be a little redundant. Either way, I also think that we should specify the fact that they are novels, so either we could keep the usual subdivision and use the book series as a further subsubdivision, or we could separate novels from guide books in a column of their own. That's just my two cents on this. ~OnionShark 19:54, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
Interesting ideas. I see the appeal, but I'm not sure they're worth hundreds of edits. Maybe if/when we ever need to make other changes to the appearances, we could also change the way we handle book titles? (Also Dorek and Swert may want to weigh in on this one.) -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:19, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Don't we still have a bot for that kind of thing? =P
I'm not a huge fan, personally. I like the way it looks now a lot better, since we already have to make a number of subdivisions as it is. -- Dorek Talk External Image 18:34, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

The Wayback Machine script

Hello there! I remember you had a script which can massively save URLs to the Wayback Machine. It would be great if you could save the entire BS01 and maybe even the Greg Farshtey Archives. --External Image 17:39, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi! The script relies on incrementing page numbers in the URL, so I'm afraid it wouldn't work for BS01. (Scripts that can crawl BS01 do exist though, it'll just take some searching to find one.) That said I think I can easily modify the current script to archive the Greg archives since those URLs have page numbers. I'll hop on that. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 06:33, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
All the Greg archives should be backed up on now. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 03:10, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Little help on HS01

So, I tried to update the site with the infoboxes at first, And there were no problem with them, but I met with the HeroInfo Template, what I want to replace with an updated Hero Template. But the latest version fot he Hero Template does this. I only wanted to make subtabs for the 1.0, the 3.0 and the Brain Attack tabs, what I managed to do - or I hope so - but the infobox doesn't look like Hahli's or Jaller's, as you can see. What did I miss in the template? The other templates what I updated are working nicely, except that they don't wanna use the "infoLight" or "infoDark" classes, except that, they're working well. — SurelNuva (Talk) 20:19, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm probably not going to have time to work on this for a while. Either way, the code that makes infobox tabs work is outdated on HS01, but I can't update it since I'm not a staff member there, so it's best not to change HS01's infoboxes yet. I'd recommend bringing up redesign ideas with Dorek. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 06:31, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! I'll copy this section to Dorek's talkpage. — SurelNuva (Talk) 23:42, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Given some of the recent news surrounding digital security, i really think we need to accelerate our move to https. having a non-secure connection simply isn't good enough anymore. Intelligence4 (talk) 23:10, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for the very late response! This is something we've been talking a good deal about behind-the-scenes. We know what steps are needed, we just need to do them. What’s an Idly?

What is and idly? User:Kota9999 Kota9999 (talk) 21:52, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

"Idly" is the adverb form of "idle." Specifically, in the original quote Greg said that the idea of making Ahkmou a shadow Toa was "thrown out idly in a story meeting." There "idly" means somebody proposed the idea casually without putting too much thought into it. We know the idea was never explored very seriously because by Greg's own admission, "It never went far enough to be a 'plan.'" -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 22:03, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Little help... again

Umm, could you help me? How can I insert my images from flickr to BS01? — SurelNuva (Talk) 17:44, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

First go to the image you want to use. Below the image on the right-hand side of the page there should be a button with a down arrow pointing to a horizontal line. (It's to the left of the enlarge button.) Click that button. That should open a dropdown. Click the last option in the dropdown, "View all sizes." That will take you to a page where you can pick the size of the image that you want to embed. Once you've picked a size, right click on the image and get its URL. Then use that URL to embed the image. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 18:39, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you so much! — SurelNuva (Talk) 19:18, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
My Brickshelf pictures/thumbnails remained intact after the site's transfer to HTTPS. Should I replace them? — SurelNuva (Talk) 08:28, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Yes please. We want to be able to load all images, etc. securely, but we can't load Brickshelf images securely. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 22:34, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Right/Left hand Matoran

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned in any book, I doubt it. It originates from MNOG. The first to be mentioned to be a "special aide" was Onepu, when first encountered in MNOG. When first encountered, Tamaru states himself to be "Matau's best!" not sure if this is the tree-speak version... When you start to assemble the Chronicler's Company, Vakama says "Of my left and right hands, Jala should remain here to command his Guard and defend Ta-Koro. My left hand is Kapura, who is with you now." Kopeke and Hafu are stated to be the left hand of their respective Turaga, while Maku is stated to be the right hand of Nokama. Though not explicitely stated, one can assume Matoro, Huki, Onepu and Kongu to be the right hand of their respective Turaga, while Kotu, Tamaru and Taipu would be the left. With the exception of Matau, because you don't speak to him, and Nuju, because he is talking through Matoro, all the Turaga suggest both of their supposed aides. Not sure if this was to any help to answer up your question ~ Wolk (talk) 23:58, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

On the original website Kapura's bios section mentions that "Vakama has great confidence in the odd little Matoran and has appointed him to stand at his left side." and Jaller's, Hewkii's too. — SurelNuva (Talk) 07:58, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Now that you bring it up, it also states Onepu and Matoro to be the right hand of their Turaga. ~ Wolk (talk) 20:03, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Nice, thanks for the info! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 20:13, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
what brought this up? Intelligence4 (talk) 22:34, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
IIRC I was rewriting the Mahri pages and noticed some of the infoboxes didn't mention they were left/right hands. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:15, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
I wouldn't have even thought of that haha. I totally forgot about that aspect of the earlier years. I just clicked on matoro's bio thingie that was linked above, and it says he has a deep and booming voice. I definitely didn't imagine him sounding like that lol. Piraka "Kaita" Instructions

So now, I presumably completed my Piraka sets enough to made up the instructions for both of the Korean Piraka Kaita models. May I make a pair of "Building steps" for them on the same way as I did for Krahka and upload them here as their respective Building Instructions? (I say presumably for there are some missing pieces from them, but judging by the models/pictures, I have every pieces to build them up)SurelNuva (Talk) 08:29, 22 January 2018 (UTC) — SurelNuva (Talk) 08:29, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

new site appearance

it looks pretty good! was that a decision the staff made, or was it a change based on some upstream changes? Intelligence4 (talk) 20:05, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks! We've been working on and off (mostly off :P) on it for over a year now. Swert decided it was time to make the switch. Actually, one of the nice things about Refreshed is that BS01 will drive upstream changes (in part), rather than the other way around, since unlike MonoBook, Refreshed is mostly developed by members of the Lego community. Also, the layout isn't done yet. You can copy/paste the CSS from User:Morris the Mata Nui Cow/refreshed.css into User:Intelligence4/refreshed.css so see what's in the pipeline. Any feedback is much appreciated! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 20:37, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
You can also add mw.loader.load( '/w/index.php?title=User:Morris_the_Mata_Nui_Cow/refreshed.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css', 'text/css' ); to your user JS page so that MtMNC's changes stay up to date for you and ensure that the current code doesn't cause any conflict down the road once these changes are implemented into the local skin customization. :) --Meiko (talk) 20:54, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Is the Kraatu a rahi? if so I really think it should be canonized by Greg. It has a uniqueness to it's look, especially the tail which is a Tohunga throwing arm.User:Kota9999

Looks like Greg was hesitant to canonize it because he wasn't sure the name was approved. (See here and here.) That first quote mentions that the model is a non-canon puppet, not sure where that info came from though. I'm with you, it'd make a good Rahi. Maybe he could canonize it as a nameless Rahi? -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 04:07, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Certain Krahka Instructions changes

So I noticed that I attached incirrectly the plus weapons on her arms (the long metru-arm things with Nokama's blades). They meant to be attached one unit lower. Also I figured out that the arms can be attached in a different way, with some minor changes what makes them to be closer to her body, but retains the ger function. The overall look of the model nearly the same, and the pose of the picture from the book looks the same in either ways. So both ways are possible if you pose them on the same way as on the picture. — SurelNuva (Talk) 17:01, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Sorry forgot to respond to this. Maybe make a note on the combiner page explaining the correction? -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 00:40, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
I though I remake the instructions, and reupload them. But shall the new one include both of the options how someone could attach the arms to the body? One way you use the technic pins to have a hard friction and you can pose the arms independently (to each other, but you can use the gear function), and the other way that with the 4 digit long axles make a "large gearbox," which requires the 4 gears which were left behind in the first way. This unables Krahka to pose her arms independently, but the overall look doesn't change. For with both construction you can pose the figure on the same way as the Rahi Guide picture, and the second one seems legit because of the gear function, I think we could show there both? — SurelNuva (Talk)
Yeah that sounds good. Thank you for doing this! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 04:15, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Hey, you're right about the 85%/15% quote, but Greg has said it on his own before. I just can't find it anymore. Someone once said it was on his BZP blog (aka GregF's blog), but I haven't found it again yet on there. It 's also possible it was just a thread, maybe on the archives, and it got deleted. I will keep digging! --Lukas Exemplar (talk) 05:59, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

I found the right source and added it. --Lukas Exemplar (talk) 07:41, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
Cool, thanks for doing that. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 19:30, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Removal of references on Agori page

Why did you do this exactly? I really believe that if something does not have a proper source, it shouldn't be in the encyclopedia. It's a basic principle of encyclopedias that you should supply sources, so people know you aren't making things up. A lot of references/sources are missing on BS01, but I don't see why we shouldn't add them now. --Lukas Exemplar (talk) 07:33, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Agreed about refs. My thinking at first was that the Greg quote about the Element Lord chambers wasn’t really relevant to the paragraph, and the other quote (the “Yes, yes, and yes” one) and AOSR contain all the info in the paragraph. But rereading that first quote, I guess it confirms the GBs made the Element Lord of Earth, so it’s still good to include. I’ll undo that in a sec. (As for why I switched to the link instead of the Great Archives one, I lazily copied that ref from the Element Lord of Earth page. Not that that’s a good reason, but it is the reason. :P) Speaking of which refs to use, it’ll probably make things easier on your end to add refs using citation templates rather than ref tags. We have Template:MediaCitation, Template:GregCitation, Template:ComicCitation, etc. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 19:29, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
I am used to using citations templates that goes <ref>{{Cite|Book title}}</ref> so I wasn't sure how you did citations. --Lukas Exemplar (talk) 21:43, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

External Images with the Fun Image Box Thing?

Hey Morris, I asked Swert about it and he's pointed me in your direction;
How do I get the image format (below) working with externally hosted images? I've tried img tags and using the Image: prefix but to no avail.

Pictured: Onua
[[External Image|centre|thumb|150px|Pictured: Not Onua]]

Many thanks, --MightBeAlon (talk) 20:50, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Good question! Try using Template:MultiThumb like this:

I forgot to say last night - Thank you!
Also, sorry if anything I've changed is a pain; I'm trying to pick up the correct usage of things but if I get annoying feel free to yell at me on my talk page --MightBeAlon (talk) 19:07, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Sure thing! And not to worry, your edits are helpful and it's not a pain to review them. I guess one piece of feedback is that (unlike git, which it looks like you're used to) if users want to make multiple changes to a page, we encourage them to make one large edit rather than multiple small ones, since that encourages proofreading and makes reviewing edits a bit easier for the staff. So if you could condense your edits so to speak that'd be helpful. (The show preview button helps with that, it's next to the save changes button and shows what the page will look like once you save.) Keep it up! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 22:13, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
Yay, thanks :D
Ah, that makes sense! You're not wrong with the git thing though; I'm used to being told push often when you feel an atomic unit of work is complete, and it's kinda hard to get out of that mindset sometimes ^^'
I have been using the preview feature, it's super useful tbh, but oftentimes I'll look back over the page half an hour later and go "hm. i could add this". --MightBeAlon (talk) 22:21, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Book Citations

We used to use book citations as references, iirc, but is took a lot of references space, and I hated it. I personally think the format we're using is much more clear than having tons of numbers in the texts and a long list of references on the bottom of the pages. — SurelNuva (Talk) 10:36, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

I'm not inherently opposed to having story sources as separate, but the Greg citations are what's too much for me. Having three different systems doesn't really work, I'd much prefer to streamline it as much as possible. -- Dorek Talk External Image 16:08, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
What do you think about setting up references at the bottom of the page, but showing the full citation when users hover over the number in the text? I've enabled that feature on the mainspace--see Chirox for an example. Is that an agreeable compromise between citation consistency/legibility and not having to jump around the page a lot? -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 17:25, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
That would totally work for me, personally. -- Dorek Talk External Image 04:31, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

I think, chronologically, the Lightfish were first mentioned in the Rahi Beast Guide, that was, what the sentence, you removed from the Lightfish page, referred to. — SurelNuva (Talk) 06:30, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Ah I see. I'm still not sure that info belongs on the page though. If we knew that the Rahaga were the first ones to discover lightfish, then that would be useful info to include, but the book doesn't say that.
Also, thank you so much for updating all those citations! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 07:49, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
Well, I do what I can, and when I have spare time for it, but it takes a lot of time to search in the books for the exact quotes/paragraphs. — SurelNuva (Talk) 09:46, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Hey sorry to bother you

Would like to know how to mark something for deletion thanks.

Also how can i change the name of existing images. spelt rahkshi wrong in two of them or doesn't it matter (The preceding unsigned comment was made by PlamzDoom)

Not a problem! If you want a page or file deleted or renamed, just let me or another staff member know and we'll take care of it. I deleted the two files that you mentioned. Are there any others you want deleted?
Also, in the future, please end your messages with ~~~~. (To type ~ you press the ` key while holding shift. The ` key is typically by the escape key.) It leaves a signature (username, talk page link, and timestamp) so readers can tell who said what. Thank you! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 18:48, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Ok, also another question, how long does it take for a file to update. I updated an image but it instead it looks exactly the same to the previous, maybe stretched if the width or height is different. Is it just on my side? Does it take time to change? how long or is something wrong. DooM (talk) 19:04, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Yeah that's an issue on your side. Try clearing your browser's cache. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 19:52, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
Thanks DooM (talk) 20:56, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

I've got some free time.

Hey Morris,

I've recently acquired some free time where I can't sleep because of the pandemic and oh boy golly is it awful. I hope you're all keeping okay over there, by the way. England is under a slight lockdown. Is there a current and up-to-date list of work that needs to be done? I'm in a Wiki mood recently.

MightBeAlon (talk) 23:23, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

I'm sure I could find something for you! What do you prefer, simple tasks like what's on the front page maintenance section, or something a little more complex, like tracking down some sources for our articles in need of citations? -- Dorek Talk External Image 01:31, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
