Collect the Masks of Power!
The Masks of Power add to the skills and wisdom of the Toa. Each Toa must collect six Great Masks of Power in their own color before challenging the might of Makuta! The set contains two masks, plus a head and pole for display.

Set Information

The box of 8525

The Kanohi set includes two randomly packed Kanohi Masks (either Great or Noble), and pieces needed to make a head to mount them on (a headpiece, a randomly-colored eyepiece, a three-stud-long axles to mount the head on, and a second, spare axle). The set consists of six pieces in total.

Set 8525 was released in North America, and came in a box. Set 8530 was released in other parts of the world and came in a polybag. The polybag could come in several different eye colors on the packaging, referencing the eyestalk colors of the set. However, the randomization of the packaging was separate from that of the eyestalk.

Set 8530 was included in K8534 Toa Kaita Akamai[1] and K8554 Ultimate Bionicle Collectors Set.[2]

Features

Alternate polybag packaging of 8530 with red-colored eyes

Using the axle and head included in the set, one of the masks could be mounted on the canister lids of the Toa Mata sets.

Collectibles

Kanohi Mask packs contain two randomly chosen Kanohi. Worldwide, the possible Kanohi could include any out of:

  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, white, or Infected Great Hau
  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, or white Great Kakama
  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, or white Great Pakari
  • Transparent red, transparent neon orange, transparent black, transparent blue, transparent green, or transparent white Great Kaukau
  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, or white Great Miru
  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, or white Great Akaku
  • Orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray Noble Huna
  • Orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray Noble Komau
  • Orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray Noble Ruru
  • Orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray Noble Rau
  • Orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray Noble Mahiki
  • Orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray Noble Matatu

Additionally, as a result of LEGO accidentally producing some Kanohi in the wrong colors, the international mask packs could sometimes contain "misprint" Kanohi instead of their intended colors.[3][4] These could include:

  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, or white Noble Ruru (instead of orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray)
  • Red, brown, black, blue, green, or white Noble Matatu (instead of orange, tan, dark gray, light blue, lime green, or light gray)
  • Transparent medium blue or transparent neon yellow Great Kaukau (instead of transparent white or transparent neon orange)

Reception

8525 and 8530 BIONICLE Masks scored a total average of of 64.5 on Brick Insights, indicating negative reviews. However, there were only two recorded reviews, and set does not convey the traditional building experience. See: Collectibles.
