BIONICLE Facebook Page

Page will be made.

This wiki should probably have some way of referencing the happenings of the Bionicle Facebook page, which often releases images and videos that are either exclusive or are not released on another source until later and hosts events such as contests. Bionicle websites have articles so it should seem logical that the facebook page should as well. Even if a page is not made, there should be some way of referencing events that unfold on the facebook page as well as images, videos, and other content. This could mean a nav template or a category of some form. Post your thoughts.

Addition of Fansite

Given that we have BZPower on here, I feel it only right to put Mask of Destiny on as well, and perhaps even The Toa's Hideout. However, Mask of Destiny actually has a good reason, as it is actually the longest running BIONICLE fansite with a forum on the web.

Don't forget to sign your proposals, y'all. also, can we assume that, unless stated otherwise during the duration of the discussion, a proposal counts as a vote? meaning that if 6 people put their username under the yes section but one of them is the proposal writer, then there are in fact only 5 people who are voting yes. (avoiding the proposer's vote double counting.)Intelligence4 (talk) 19:34, 6 March 2017 (CET)

If we're doing so, a fellow who has the authority to do so should make sure to edit the clause on the policy page that explicitly prefers linking to other forum, with the exception of BZPower. Since the TTV MBs now incorporate our only consistent way of reaching Greg, such a change is long overdue by this point in time. Additionally, I don't really consider The Toa's Hideout to be especially notable; perhaps it could be added to an "other sites" page? Azani (talk) 02:52, 29 September 2017 (CET)
can we make a new rule that if something has been unanimously decided upon for several (say...4?) months, like this one, but it has less than 8 votes, that it gets passed anyway? if nobody has a dissenting opinion in 4 months then it should just be passed through. Intelligence4 (talk) 23:04, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

BioMedia Project

As it is a fairly extensive collection of Bionicle Generation 1 media, it seems like a page for BioMedia Project might be a worthwhile addition. To be honest, I'm not sure about some of their content, such as full scans of the various G1 comics-I'm not an expert but it seems like a copyright question-but what do y'all think?--Wiriamu (talk) 08:31, 17 December 2016 (CET)

Page will be made.

Comments

The only problem with copyright would be the scans of Glatorian Comics 3-7, as those were never published for free online. --OnionShark 21:19, 6 January 2017 (CET)

I'm pretty sure they were somewhere for free, considering I've read them and didn't have a comic subscription at the time they were published. I don't think it's an issue. Intelligence4 (talk) 03:06, 9 January 2017 (CET)
Maybe you read scans on brickshelf? Do you think you could find the place where you read them so we can be sure that no copyright issues will come up?
--OnionShark 23:05, 10 January 2017 (CET)
The scans could be found on BrickShelf some years ago (I don't know they're still there). I remember for I tried to translate the comic, but the scans were kind of awful ones, nearly unreadable, so I couldn't xd... By the way, they were on Brickshelf. -- Surel-Nuva (Talk) 23:14, 10 January 2017 (CET)
another point to make, we're not posting the content ourselves, but simply linking to another site that does, so i don't think it's an issue.
also, we have links to all the comics on here somewhere anyway, so... Intelligence4 (talk) 16:58, 11 January 2017 (CET)
Ok, I guess this technically wont get us into trouble. (BTW, GC3-7 are not linked )
--OnionShark 17:27, 11 January 2017 (CET)
Eh, the original saga's comics were not released on the BIONICLE.com, but we have links for them. And comics 3-5 were released 8 years ago, the last two were released 7 years ago, I don't think there would be copyright issue, if the BioMedia Project is still active. -- Surel-Nuva (Talk) 17:34, 11 January 2017 (CET)

No, the original comics were released for free on the website. So, the page got six votes for yes, it will be made, right? --OnionShark 17:40, 11 January 2017 (CET)

Before we create the page we would need a Sandbox section, to see how it'll look like, I think. -- Surel-Nuva (Talk) 17:43, 11 January 2017 (CET)
It's exciting that this project has been voted in, as I have hoped to do something similar for some time, but I would warn that the Lego Company still retains full rights to these comics, and can at any time deem this project unallowed. Here is a link to the Lego Companies info on using copyrighted material, [1].--Harsulin's Ghost (talk) 23:40, 21 June 2017 (CET)
Actually, having read the paragraph regarding the scanning of copyrighted material, it sounds as though the Lego group would not oppose what the BioMedia Project is doing as long as they make it clear that the content belongs to Lego (although arguably, the site hasn't made this particularly explicit). There is also a slight chance I'm misinterpreting this particular paragraph. --Snaptor (talk) 09:44, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Merchandise

Regardless of exactly what we call it, I feel as though we need a single page for all the obscure merchandising items Bionicle had during it's run, such as the Toa Mahri Dart Shooter or the Sponge Morbuzakh or even the Soft Foam Takadox Mask and Twin Knives, which clearly aren't important enough to deserve pages of their own but could probably be compiled onto a single page. The only issue I can see with this is that some of these are very difficult to find reliable citations for that extend beyond photographs (Otherwise surely there would be some mention of the wearable glow-in-the-dark Piraka teeth on the wiki) --Snaptor (talk) 01:24, 25 September 2017 (CET)

Page will be created.

Comments on merchandise

I think this will be a good page to have - but i think we have to be very careful in drawing the line between regular sets and stuff and all the ancillary merchandise that was available. Intelligence4 (talk) 00:48, 28 September 2017 (CET)

I found a TTV topic that has a huge list of this sort of thing. It obviously wouldn't qualify as an actual source, but it could certainly help as a sort of "checklist" to see exactly what sort of things we're looking for. Are we allowed to link to TTV here? (Also, on a more amusing note, I'm not sure I've seen something gather eight votes this quickly in ages, I was expecting this to be controversial. =P) Snaptor (talk) 11:10, 28 September 2017 (CET)

I just realized this only technically counts as seven votes, oops. Snaptor (talk) 23:49, 28 September 2017 (CET)

Clock set pages

"7397 Bionicle Clock", "Set:4193353 Bionicle Tahu Nuva Clock" and "4285303 Bionicle Clock" were three sets released in 2002, 2003 and 2007 respectively. You can find them on Bricklink or Brickset if you want to see images. Yes, these technically count as "gear", however they are built up out of pieces. What particularily makes me interested in making pages for these sets though is that 7397 includes a red noble Ruru, which has other wise only been released as a misprint. ~ Wolk (talk) 19:44, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Do not create Clock set pages

  1. I feel like these would belong on a page with other Merchandise-related content, but individual pages for each clock seems like opening a can of worms (what does/does not constitute a set?) --Snaptor(talk) 08:41, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
  2. I agree with the above. Additionally, one of (if not the) largest LEGO item data base, Brickset, considers this gear. If we consider this a set, what next? Shows with Kraana? Toothbrushes with Nuva masks? --Eljay Johnsen (talk) 05:54, 1 October 2018 (UTC) talk

Comments on Clock sets

So to broaden this out even further, there's stuff like the Trading Card Game which may have included LEGO elements or may not have which have set numbers, and things like T-shirts too. I'd argue it's an all or nothing gambit; either everything that has a set number, or keep it to the core buildable figures. -- Dorek Talk External Image 04:11, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Meant to type "shoes." But I certainly feel that this should be kept to items designed with the express purpose of being entirely constructed, such as the buildable figures and Playsets. --Eljay Johnsen (talk) 05:56, 1 October 2018 (UTC)talk

Style Guides

Style Guides! What are they? How do they work? Are they related to magnets? All this and more could be learned! I might just make the page anyway, but that's because I do what I want! -- Dorek Talk External Image 02:55, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Makutafest archives

I'm putting this here for lack of better place. A year ago i asked Swert about making a Makuta fest archives, and he said he would do it, but it never happened, so i'm restarting here. The Makutafest Archives would be for people like myself who do not have access to Yo**ube. I enjoyed listening to makutafest, but when the BS01 podast site went down, i wasn't able to listen to them anymore. Swert also said that he would upload the podcast downloads to this site but that didn't happen either. So i am proposing that we make a page were all the Makutafest videos and/or recordings could be stored for posterity and pleasure. Thank you. --"On the bounce and on the numbers, boys!!" ~Prof. Srlojohn 19:09, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

Discussion

Just wanted to add onto this and say that the rest of the BS01 podcast doesn't seem to be accessible anywhere either; if we can do this (and I'd like to hear if anyone actually has the files before I vote) I'd like to see the other podcasts archived as well. --Snaptor(talk) 01:34, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

@Snaptor: yeah i know Swert has them because he told me himself via email. --"On the bounce and on the numbers, boys!!" ~Prof. Srlojohn 11:48, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

-so can we finally come to a decision on this? it kinda got dropped. --"On the bounce and on the numbers, boys!!" ~Prof. Srlojohn 13:55, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

I get the impression Swert is partway through editing podcast(s?) but hasn't had the time to upload them. (I just asked about this recently too.) If you want to get in touch with him directly, maybe try the Red Star Games or /r/bioniclelego Discord servers. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 18:07, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Music of the BIONICLE films

If the topic is deemed worthy of its own separate article, I would very much like to create one for the soundtracks to the Bionicle movies. I believe a suitable title would be "Music of the BIONICLE films". The Music article would be given a link to it at the top of the "Movie Scores" section (e.g. Main article: Music of the BIONICLE films).

This article would encompass the full details of the Miramax trilogy soundtrack releases as well as their history, using as much data about them as I can find. It would cover subjects such as how Nathan Furst was initially brought on board to score the films, why they remained unreleased for such a long time, and the efforts made to release portions of the score prior to the official releases. It would also include any available information on the score of The Legend Reborn; even though that film has not been given a soundtrack release, it is possible there could be one in the future. It would not include information about the music of The Journey to One since that is a web series and not technically a movie.

I believe this topic is worthy of its own article due to the large amount of relevant information about it, in contrast to the other sections of the main Music article. I would, of course, be happy to assume responsibility for creating and maintaining the article.

Please post your thoughts below; any support would be greatly appreciated. I'd really love to be able to move ahead with this article.

Don't Create Music of the Bionicle Films Page

  1. As much as I love these soundtracks, I can't see them warranting their own page, although I agree that the information on the Music page is lacking. I feel that any relevant info on these albums should either be added there, or on the page for Nathan Furst (which is another page that could use a rewrite). --Snaptor(talk) 01:29, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
  2. I gotta say no here. Info should just be put on the relevant existing pages (i.e. music, nathan furst, each movie's page, etc) (The preceding unsigned comment was made by Intelligence4)

Comments on Music of the Bionicle Films Page

In response to Snaptor's comment in the "No" section at 01:29, 23 August 2018: Some of the information I had hoped to include in the proposed article is actually stuff I previously put on the Music page in the Movie Scores section, but another user seemed to think it was too excessive for that page and removed most of it (while also suggesting that I try to AFC a page). --Metalla (talk) 02:21, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

That was probably me! Personally, I find a lot of it extraneous. I don't need to know where in Web of Shadows that minutes 1:05-2:37 of song 23 appear. We're not a Furst fanpage, no offense to the guy. The information needs to be relevant to more than just itself. -- Dorek Talk External Image 02:40, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Understandable. This is why I feel a separate page would be a worthy undertaking, as there is a fair bit of information on these scores that people may like to explore and/or simply have a comprehensive database to refer to. Of course, I wouldn't include information that's just plain unnecessary like, say, a detailed list of where each track appears. --Metalla (talk) 03:36, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

I think if Metalla wants to spend his personal time contributing useful information to this wiki, even if some of you find it more detailed than necessary, there's no good reason not to let him go ahead and do it. —Planetperson 00:00, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you Planetperson, I appreciate the support! --Metalla (talk) 00:58, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
While I do appreciate Metalla's enthusiasm here, and also agree that we could most definitely use more information on the soundtracks, there is a point where, even on an extensive wiki such as this, there can be simply too much information. Imagine if we went to Greg Farshtey's page and added everything we know about him from the ask Greg topics over the years; nobody needs to know what his favorite pizza topping is (seriously, I think someone did actually ask that). If we really want to make pages for these soundtracks, we should make one for each album (I feel a page for an actual album release is plenty justifiable if we have pages for fifteen second flash animations and the like). I just don't think we should make one, big page that would likely end up reading like a Nathan Furst fan tribute; as awesome as he and his soundtracks are, this is still a wiki and should remain objective. I support the movement for more information on these soundtracks, we just need to think about how we go about doing it. Individual album pages would have my vote, as long as we are discerning with exactly what we put on them. --Snaptor(talk) 01:29, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
I get what you're saying. But given the amount of verifiable information that's currently available on the soundtracks (keep in mind it's only 3 albums, maybe eventually 4 if we're lucky), I really think a single cumulative page would be the best fit, at least for now. It would be better to have a page that encompasses all of the soundtracks in a complete and concise way rather than have multiple pages that are fairly short and contain redundant information. I would of course be very open to edits by other users, especially since there could be additional relevant information I am leaving out. --Metalla (talk) 04:59, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Okay, been a little over a month since this section had any activity so I kinda wanted to touch base. Opinions on this AFC seem pretty mixed so far, though it doesn't look like a lot of people have voted. To anyone who has a definitive opinion on whether this article should be created or not, I'd love for you to share it and/or cast your vote in the appropriate section, as I'm eager to have a more clear idea of whether this thing is gonna fly or not. Furthermore, the possibility of creating individual pages for each of the 3 albums has been suggested; if more people voice approval for that idea, I'd be willing to change the proposal (or create a new one altogether) and advocate for the creation of those instead. --Metalla (talk) 15:00, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

I think it is actually possible to create another voting option for the individual albums in the same poll - some others have added third sections after another option becomes apparent. --Snaptor(talk) 09:00, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

  3. No page, and no sub-section either. See comments below. --PeabodySam (talk) 23:26, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
  4. I agree with Peabody. Nobua is ultimate merely a trivial footnote, everything we know about him can be put in a single sentence and he is not a canon character. Belongs on the BtLoMN page. ~ Wolk (talk) 02:08, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
  5. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 23:25, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Comments on Nobua

Even though everybody loves Nobua (myself included), I don't even think that we need a whole sub-section of the TLoMN page for Nobua. As a character who only appeared in a couple short scenes that were apparently cut later in development, he's not significant enough to warrant much more than the brief mention he already has on said page; we don't give special treatment to other similarly non-canon concepts (such as other subjects from TLoMN, or even the various unused characters and concepts from MNOLG's development). --PeabodySam (talk) 23:26, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Further more, his storyline role contridicts the existing canon, as established in BIONICLE: Chronicles #1, where Onepu is the first Matoran Onua meets. ~ Wolk (talk) 02:12, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Rename "Reformation of Spherus Magna" to "Restoration of Spherus Magna"

I think "reformation" is a poor choice of word here. The word "reformation" normally refers to correcting an institution or practice, not repairing a physical thing. It also has religious undertones. The term "restoration" would be more suitable.
