GitHub

Hey, I was just revisiting the place and see the splash page, Refreshed skin, and quite a few other things have come a long way since I last saw. Looks great! I had previously had my first splash page hosted on my personal GitHub, and since I can see you've put a lot of work into it I went ahead and updated the Git repository for it to reflect the newest revisions. I also went ahead and took it off of my personal GitHub and made a BIONICLEsector01 organization, https://github.com/BIONICLEsector01, which I believe I sent you an invite to so you can contribute to that. I also made an update script to keep the Git in sync with the production server, which can be run from SSH by simply running ~/update.sh (from Swert's SSH account, I don't know if you might have a separate SSH account on this server, if so let me know and I'll fix that). Hopefully using Git will be a convenience and a "safety" feature, so none of your work gets irreversibly broken or lost because of server issues (*cough* HS01). If there's any questions or you need anything related to the GitHub account let me know. I'll probably set you to have full access to everything on it once you join the organization, that way you can mess with it on your own and have full control. Keep up the good work though, loving what you've done with the stuff here. :) --Meiko (talk) 01:24, 14 August 2017 (CET)

Hey what's up, it's been a while! Thanks for setting this all up, I just joined. I use Swert's SSH account, yep. Glad you like it! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 02:21, 14 August 2017 (CET)

Era... again

So, the original Era template had an icon for non-canon and semi canon media, but the neither of the separated G1-G2 Eras have these. They're just floating on the left corner under the title on the pages, which sometimes a bit irritating (for me), can't you just fix it somehow? Such as merging with the separated categories or adding the NC-SC for both, or I don't really know. — SurelNuva (Talk) 08:43, 21 August 2017 (CET)

Replace those with Template:NCSC. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 18:00, 21 August 2017 (CET)

Videos

The <videoflash> doesn't work. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:21, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

It's being phased out in favor of EmbedVideo. A cheap way to use it now is like so:

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[VIDEO ID]</youtube>

Perhaps that's the next step is to fix that? :P Also, to adjust videos, see here --External Image Owner (talk|contribs)
I've just noticed that the <videoflash> doesn't work when I edited the BIONICLE Battle Videos page. How about the video's size? I've tried to change the videoflash to youtube, but the result is too large, I don't want to save it, please try it. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:57, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

User:Meiko removed VideoFlash as it is very out of date. Swert's method works, but I think the format mentioned here allows more customization:

{{#evt:
service=youtube
|id=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
|dimensions=350
}}

Gives you this:

... Why, Morris? ;_; --External Image Owner (talk|contribs)

Can we upload the videos to or wiki? Such as the commercials and character videos. It would be safer if the videos would be native like the Building Instructions, not linked from YouTube, where (as y'all know) can be deleted over the time. From BMP I could download some of the videos, but I don't really know if I can upload them here and they would work or not. — SurelNuva (Talk) 12:04, 16 September 2017 (CET)

i think we should. but we have to make sure we're getting the original videos, not stuff that people uploaded to youtube that may have been altered in any way. Intelligence4 (talk) 21:53, 16 September 2017 (CET)
From BioMedia Project, I could download some of the original videos, and there are at east 2 YouTube channels which have the original videos, I have checked them. But I don't know what format the video should be uploaded (mp4, avi etc.) what the wiki can use, and if the video did even work as a native one, not an external link. — SurelNuva (Talk) 22:04, 16 September 2017 (CET)

mah-TOW - mah-TAOW

Doesn't the same rule what you said go to the "Hau," "Komau," and the other pronunciations ending with "OW" in the BEU? WE could change it like how it's in the Garai's page and include the BEU page number. But I think the old pronunciations may came from the Official Guide. I'll buy the Hungarian edition, but it won't match with the English one. The pronunciations are the same, but how they're written is not. — SurelNuva (Talk) 15:06, 29 August 2017 (CET)

Only for ones like TOW, ROW, or MOW where the "ow" sound in those words actually makes the OH sound rather than the desired OW sound. HOW is fine since the word "how" is pronounced like "hau," as desired. Citations work, sure. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 21:18, 30 August 2017 (CET)

log out timer... again

in reference to the section that was archived... it's still happening a few weeks later. i'm getting logged out after some time on the site for no immediately apparent reason. Intelligence4 (talk) 20:32, 29 August 2017 (CET)

Huh. I'll bring this up with other staff, but I'm afraid I don't know what the cause is or what the solution would be (and I doubt I'll have time to look into it in the near future). -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 21:18, 30 August 2017 (CET)
sounds good. just wanted to make sure someone knows about it :) Intelligence4 (talk) 02:10, 5 September 2017 (CET)

Uploads... no uploads.

After spending an embarrassingly long time looking for the upload button that I knew was there before, I realized that uploads were restricted so the button has disappeared. Do you know why, and more importantly when they will be working again?--Harsulin's Ghost (talk) 01:16, 1 September 2017 (CET)

Fixed. Sorry about that. We disabled uploads it to prepare for some backend work, but people's schedules haven't synced up to finish it yet. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 09:23, 2 September 2017 (CET)
No problem. Thanks.--Harsulin's Ghost (talk) 22:32, 2 September 2017 (CET)

Instructions

So I made a typo in Kirop's instructions... I've uploaded the same file with the corrected name, so would you be so kind to delete File:8949 Instructions.pdf file? Thanks! — SurelNuva (Talk) 12:26, 2 September 2017 (CET)

Okay I accidentally inserted the good file without typo for deletion. My bad, I'm so sorry. So could you rename this file : File:8949 Insturctions.pdf into 8949 Instructions.pdf, please? — SurelNuva (Talk) 07:33, 3 September 2017 (CET)
All good, I should have caught that myself haha. Done. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:29, 3 September 2017 (CET)
Thanks! By the way, how could I re-size the external images? I usually upload large images to BS and it would take too many space on my User-page, but the 'thumbs' are just too small. — SurelNuva (Talk) 00:09, 9 September 2017 (CET)

Unfortunately I'm not sure you can. BS01's home-built extension may have that functionality, but I'm not sure it does, and the extension is quite out-of-date anyway. You should upload a copy that's the right size and embed that instead. (Haha by the way I hope you don't think BS01 is BS--look it up :P) -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 05:55, 9 September 2017 (CET)

I don't think I ever uploaded anything to BS01 what I wanted to upload to BS or vica-versa. :D — SurelNuva (Talk) 12:09, 9 September 2017 (CET)
what...what's bs? looking that one up only sends me to urban dictionary. Intelligence4 (talk) 07:40, 16 September 2017 (CET)
Urban Dictionary's right. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 08:48, 16 September 2017 (CET)

Set-shortcut

My last edit's summary is wrong, not the whole page name is the shortcut, only the script after the "Set:", so I think I did it correctly... or didn't I? — SurelNuva (Talk) 19:07, 16 September 2017 (CET)

Also, there will be some edits on the set pages after all, I had to edit the BI links on some pages, and have to add the EraG1 to them, I've added the EraG2 to the Generation 2 sets, so some massive edits cannot be avoided, unfortunately. — SurelNuva (Talk) 19:21, 16 September 2017 (CET)
Maybe we should make every "number-pages" as redirects/shortcuts for the sets, and after add the shortcut to the template. I added it, made the "8689" page as the shortcut for "Set:8689", but the shortcut (8689) appeared to be a red-link after the creation of the page (8689) on the "Set:8689" page. So I had to remove the shortcut from the Template:Set and re-add it to make this correct. Would I remove the shortcut parameter from the Template:Set until every "number" page will be made and after this re-add the parameter or what should I do? (Hope, you understand, this might be confusing even from me)SurelNuva (Talk) 21:59, 16 September 2017 (CET)

BS01's MediaWiki "Images" extension

Hey MtMNC! I wasn't sure who to best talk to about this (it said the author was User:Swert, and User:Meiko imported the files), but I'm asking you since you're the only public member on the BS01 GitHub group. Would you mind if I opened a pull request to the extension along with a code+review? I have some improvements I'd like to share the codebase, which would be:

  • Updating extension registry (use extension.json, provide a very-temporary back-compatible PHP entry point, then have someone load the extension via wfLoadExension( 'Images' ); in this wiki's local setting so that the PHP entry point can be deleted in a follow-up patch)
  • Avoiding global using the ParserFirstCallInit hook
  • Code styling to adhere to conventions

I also have some ideas on how to improve the arguments logic, although I need to do some thinking first on how to make the new logic backward-compatible since it'd allow those attributes written just like how HTML5 attributes are written, so stuff doesn't break. That would be in a patch separate from the other patch- if you think that the new sytnax proposal is more suited for the community portal or something, let me know and I'll put it there instead. Thanks!

SamanthaNguyen (talk) 20:35, 18 September 2017 (CET)

Yeah that'd be fine. Thanks for being willing to take that on! -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 15:55, 19 September 2017 (CET)
