Protodermis Canals are Matoran-built waterway channels in the city of Metru Nui to transport large quantities of Liquid Protodermis.

History

Especially significant Protodermis Canals run deep throughout the district of Ga-Metru. Here, the Liquid Protodermis of the Silver Sea is drawn into the Great Temple, where it is purified by Ga-Matoran lab workers. After, the Protodermis is redirected into the canals, which dump it in a subterranean pipe system. The Protodermis that is collected can also be superheated and sent to Ta-Metru to be molded into Kanohi, Kanoka, and other tools. As a pastime, Matoran are known to perform Disk Surfing on the canals. The Ga-Matoran, who had a special fondness for boats, used to sail miniature replicas of the ships during their free time.

In the Po-Metru district, Protodermis Canals are used when carvings are too large to be supported on loaders. Therefore, the structures are loaded onto flatboats and transported along the canals.

During their quest to recover the Great Disks, Toa Metru Nokama and Matau encountered a Protodermis Canal in Ga-Metru that had been completely drained of Liquid Protodermis. They discovered that someone had manipulated the control wheel to stop the flow. Suddenly, the two Toa Metru were confronted by an oncoming wave of Liquid Protodermis, which engulfed them. Nokama managed to gain control using her Hydro Blades but Matau was swept away. However, Nokama managed to save him and the Toa continued on their quest.

The Protodermis Canals were damaged in the earthquake that struck Metru Nui during the Great Cataclysm, but they have since been repaired by the usage of the Staff of Artakha.

The Protodermis canals were damaged when the fragment of Aqua Magna hit Metru Nui. Later, the Protodermis Canals, along with all other locations in the Matoran Universe, were dismantled.
