The Prison of the Dark Hunters is a heavily guarded confinement facility used by the Dark Hunters on Metru Nui.

History

The Toa Metru in their prison cell
The Toa Metru meet Turaga Lhikan.
The Toa Metru discover their mask powers.

The entrance to the Prison, carved in the likeness of a Kanohi Kraahkan and guarded by hundreds of Vahki Zadakh, is located in the Canyon of Unending Whispers in Po-Metru, near the border to Onu-Metru. The actual facility lies in the underground area of Onu-Metru and was heavily guarded by Vahki Rorzakh during the Dark Hunters' presence in Metru Nui directly prior to the Great Cataclysm.

After their successful capture of Toa Mangai Lhikan, the Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka brought the Toa to the Prison by way of an Assembler's Village and confined him there. When the six Matoran Lhikan had chosen to become Toa Metru traveled to the Great Temple and used their Toa Stones to become Toa, Lhikan became a Turaga in his cell.

Following the Toa Metru's defeat at the hands of the Coliseum's undulating Akilini field, Toa Metru Onewa, Whenua and Nuju were escorted to their cell by a squad of Rorzakh. Seizing an opportunity to escape their captors, the three Toa took a side passage and evaded the Vahki for hours. However, Whenua had unwittingly been struck by a blast from their Staffs of Presence, which the Vahki utilized to their advantage by manipulating the Toa into entering their designated cell.

Once incarcerated, the Toa were discussing how to escape and making a few fruitless attempts when Turaga Lhikan, in disguise, approached them. The Turaga used the opportunity to teach the captive Toa to use their mask powers. He had them perform seemingly pointless tasks, such as navigating the prison blindfolded. While in the Prison, Onewa discovered the power of his Kanohi Komau while exerting mind control over Whenua during an argument. Nuju learned and used the powers of his Kanohi Matatu to knock out a portion of the cell wall, through which the Toa and Turaga escaped their confinement and headed down Onu-Metru service tunnels, utilizing the newfound capabilities of Whenua's Kanohi Ruru.

It was damaged as a result of the Great Cataclysm, but was later repaired by the Staff of Artakha. The prison was later damaged again when a fragment of Aqua Magna struck Metru Nui, causing severe damage throughout the entire city. Later, the Prison of the Dark Hunters, along with all other locations in the Matoran Universe, was dismantled.[1][2]
