Phantoka Battle Cards
Card Game
Year released 2008

Phantoka Battle Cards is a card game featuring the canister and small sets of early 2008. They are issued in packs of seven randomly selected cards, each containing three Matoran cards, three Makuta and/or Toa Nuva cards and a "Combi" card, which features a Shadow Matoran/Av-Matoran riding the relating Makuta/Toa Nuva. The cards have been issued in Singapore, Sweden, Finland, Hong Kong, Croatia and Estonia.

Card Layout

The Vamprah card

In the top left corner of every Makuta/Toa Nuva/Matoran card, the BIONICLE logo is present as it appeared in material for early 2008 sets. Below that is a picture of the character in which the card is based on. Under the picture is a one-sentence description of the character that takes up two lines (For example, Tanma is the leader of the last remaining Matoran of Light.). Directly underneath the two first lines is a statement which notifies the designated "combination" of the actual sets (For example: Combine with Toa Lewa 8686!). The information is not, however, entirely accurate. On Antroz's card, for example, it states he is the leader of the Brotherhood of Makuta, when he is in fact not.

To the right of each card is a vertical box which gives some more info. The character's name and product number are at the top of the box. Below that is a brief summary of the character, giving on the character's color, weapons, and mask. Under that is a circle with a picture of the designated set for the actual set to combine with. Below that are statistics with bars, all identical to the BIONICLE.com stats. Finally, below the stats there is a small horizontal box saying: Play all the cool BIONICLE® games on www.BIONICLE.com.

An example of a "combi" card

The "combi" cards are nearly identical to the other cards, with a few exceptions. Each one has a holographic foil effect, and the main image contains the two respective characters instead of one. The description of the character is excluded, and instead replaced with the names and product numbers of the two combined sets.

Like most other card games, the back of the battle cards are all the same. The back contains the Phantoka logo at the top, accompanied by the Phantoka background and black border. Along the bottom, there is a picture of all the Phantoka canisters and the LEGO symbol. A black border surrounds the front of the Toa Nuva/Av-Matoran battle cards. However, the front of the Makuta/Shadow Matoran has a crimson border.
