Jovan was a Toa of Magnetism and the leader of the Toa team that first retrieved the Kanohi Ignika. He later became the Turaga of Voya Nui.

Biography

Toa

Around 100,000 years ago, Jovan was transformed into a Toa after being created as a Fa-Matoran.[citation needed]

Jovan encountered Toa Lesovikk during the Toa of Air's travels. Jovan coached the Toa in valuable fighting styles and ideas.[2] Lesovikk continued his quest, and Jovan later joined a Toa team.[citation needed]

Around 79,100 years ago, the Matoran Civil War in Metru Nui imperiled the health of the Great Spirit Mata Nui. To prevent his death, Jovan led his team to the Chamber of Life, located under Mount Valmai in the heart of the Southern Continent. The team successfully battled the various guards and traps in the chamber, including Umbra, and retrieved the Mask of Life, which they then brought to Karda Nui to restore health to Mata Nui. After the Ignika's use resulted in the death of a Toa, the remaining members of the team returned it to the Chamber of Life.[citation needed]

Turaga

After the Toa returned the Ignika, they transformed into Turaga, and Jovan stayed behind to take leadership of the village of Voya Nui and watch over the mask.[citation needed] As a Turaga, Jovan educated the Matoran of Voya Nui about their history, and the history of the Matoran Universe, through storytelling. During the Great Cataclysm, when the landmass containing Voya Nui broke off the continent and rocketed to the surface of Aqua Magna, Jovan was killed in the upheaval.[3]

After dying, Jovan was reincarnated on the Red Star, as part of the Star's primary function. However, the return mechanism of the Star had since malfunctioned, and Jovan was trapped in the Star along with other revived beings.[4]

Abilities and Traits

As a Toa of Magnetism, Jovan could create, control, and absorb magnetic energy. This allowed him a wide range of abilities, which included increasing or decreasing the magnetic field in an area, releasing beams of magnetic energy, as well as manipulating metal and other substances through magnetism. These powers were reduced greatly when he became a Turaga.

Jovan has seen the value of knowledge to a warrior, believing it to be more useful than physical weaponry.[2]

Mask and Tools

As a Toa, Jovan wore a Kanohi Kadin, the Mask of Flight, and his Toa Tool was a Magnetic Bolt Launcher. He also carried the earliest known model of the Zamor Launcher, the Zamor of which could nullify the effects of enemy weapons.

When he became a Turaga, his Kadin became a Noble Mask of Flight, and his Magnetic Bolt Launcher transformed into a Badge of Office.

Set Information

The Toa Jovan model was revealed in the September–October 2006 LEGO Magazine, with instructions appearing in the European edition of the magazine. Instructions were also made available on BIONICLE.com soon afterwards. The Jovan model is made of pieces from 8728 Toa Hahli, 8729 Toa Nuparu, and 8730 Toa Hewkii. His Zamor Launcher features a cartridge piece that gives it a capacity of four yellow-orange Zamor spheres.
