Toa Mata Onua's Claws helped him dig tunnels quickly throughout the underground of Mata Nui, channel his Earth power, and also function as melee weapons. While they are referred to as Toa Tools, the Claws were actually Onua's hands.

When Onua transformed into a Toa Nuva by Energized Protodermis, the Claws became a pair of Quake Breakers.
