Proto-Squad
The Proto-Squad was an exclusive BIONICLE product-testing program run by the LEGO Group in the United States from 2002 to 2005. Participants in the program, who were drawn from US BIONICLE fans age 9-12, periodically received packages in the mail containing sneak peaks of the BIONICLE storyline, unreleased BIONICLE sets, and exclusive promotional items, all free of charge. Additionally, members received access to exclusive web content and downloads. In return, Proto-Squad members were occasionally asked to submit feedback about BIONICLE products. A signed letter from BIONICLE author Greg Farshtey was included in every package.

The Proto-Squad was first advertised in the March-April 2002 issue of LEGO Mania Magazine as a collaboration with then-BIONICLE endorser and professional skateboarder Andy MacDonald. Harvali is an archaeologist of the Region of Jungle

Biography
February 2003
Harvali is an Islander of the Region of Jungle, she had a career as an archaeologist and was an experienced mountain climber.

Harvali discovered ancient reliefs in a cliff below the City of the Mask Makers, these reliefs pictured the Elemental Creatures and a map of Okoto with the location of the Temple of Time marked. Harvali thought these drawings were made long before the Mask Makers were born, and asked Vizuna to climb down so that he could see the reliefs himself. She was determined to build a bridge so that the rest of the islanders could see and study the carvings, but Vizuna tried to discourage her for the idea being too risky. She ignored the Protector of Jungle and built the bridge by herself.
Included a Bohrok-Kal set and a letter from Greg Farshtey.

A year before the Toa had arrived to the City of the Mask Makers, Harvali went missing and the locals villagers informed Vizuna of her disappearance. The Protector investigated the bridge and found markings of Skull Spiders but no sign of the archaeologist. He left the bridge intact so that in the slight chance that Harvali had survived, she would have an escape route, but decided that no villager should ever come near the road as precaution.
March 2003
Harvali had survived in a nearby cave, but was cornered by a giant snake possessed by a Skull Spider which prevented her escape. She armed herself with a spear and managed to survive until the Protectors arrived, searching for an alternate path to the City of the Mask Makers after Onua had destroyed the bridge leading to the city.
Included a $50 LEGO Shop@Home gift certificate to cover the cost of BIONICLE Nike shoes. Also included a letter from Greg Farshtey with a link and password to the exclusive Proto-Squad content on Lego.com.<ref>BZPower News. The Protectors managed to free the giant snake, and Harvali guided them to the lair of the Lord of the Skull Spiders, which was the only way to the city. The Protectors managed to kill the Lord of the Skull Spiders by bringing down the ceiling on top of him and the rest of the Skull Spiders, and the group arrived at the city just as Ekimu defeated Kulta.
May 2003
Harvali soon designed a rope bridge built with the help of the Toa and the Protectors to allow the citizens of Okoto to return to the city. RotSS

"This concept poster was done in 2006 trying to envision what the battle in Karda Nui between the Toa and the brotherhood of Makuta would look like. ...He is being chased by an evil looking craft or creature looking like a blend between an “M” for Makuta and a manta ray. ...The fight takes place just next to the “great fall” the water pouring into Karda Nui." Deputy Toa

A Deputy Toa is the second-in-command of a Toa team. They serve as confidantes to their team leaders and fulfill the role themselves when their leaders are unavailable.

Known Toa

Kopaka, the deputy leader of the Toa Nuva
Nokama led the Toa Hordika during Vakama's defection

Trivia

 • While most of the Toa team leaders are Toa of Fire, Toa deputies have represented many different elements.
 • Lesovikk was the overall commander of the Toa Cordak,[1] while Nikila was considered as the tactical leader.[1]

Non-Canon

Sandbox is Non-Canon
Sandbox is considered to be Non-Canonical to the BIONICLE storyline because, although it uses several BIONICLE elements from BIONICLE, the events it portrays were never approved by the BIONICLE Story Team, and are either never referenced in canon media or contradict canon events.

Note: I added the "never referenced in canon media/contradict canon events" part because of the fact that the two MNOGs are considered (semi)canon even though they were never approved by the Story Team. ~OnionShark 21:15, 26 July 2017 (CET)
