[carve] History
When he was a Toa Metru, Vakama created the Kanohi Vahi by forging the fusion of the six Great Disks. Makuta Teridax (in the guise of Turaga Dume) wanted it for use in his master scheme. After he finished it, Vakama used the Kanohi Vahi against Teridax. However, he was unable to keep control of the mask, and ended up slowing himself along with Teridax rather than just his foe; he would have been killed had not Turaga Lhikan stepped forward to block Teridax's attack. The resulting blow killed Lhikan. Vakama later hit the Kanohi Vahi with a Kanoka, causing it to fall into the Silver Sea.
Following the events of the Great Rescue, Vakama went to retrieve the mask. Although originally gold, it had rusted orange from extended exposure to the sea. When he found it, the Kanohi Vahi had a small crack in it and was leaking Time energy, affecting all life near it. Vakama managed to seal the crack using a pinpoint beam of fire. As he returned to the surface, he was ambushed by Voporak, who then stole the mask. After it was stolen from him, Vakama teamed up with Teridax to retrieve it. Voporak presented it to The Shadowed One, who planned to use it to conquer the Matoran Universe. Teridax tried to barter Vakama for it, but the Toa stole it back. He threatened to smash it, which would destroy the fabric of time. Teridax was not willing to sacrifice all of time, so he permitted Vakama to leave and keep the mask.
After the Toa Mata had transformed into the Toa Nuva, Vakama, now a Turaga, gave the Kanohi Vahi to Tahu Nuva, who used it to delay the Bohrok-Kal's attempt to free the Bahrag. It almost overwhelmed Tahu and he later gave it back to Vakama, who now has it in his possession.
The mask is currently coveted by the Brotherhood of Makuta, the Dark Hunters, and the Order of Mata Nui. The Dark Hunters sent Voporak and Ancient on a mission to search for the mask, but upon learning that it is in the possesion of Turaga Vakama, who is willing to destroy it to prevent it falling into the wrong hands, they decided a raid of Metru Nui at the time would be pointless. The Order, however, is content with the Kanohi Vahi being kept by Vakama, as they know he will keep it safe.
[carve] Dark Mirror
In the Toa Empire Pocket Dimension, the six Great Disks were kept on the island of Artakha, where Artakha experimented with them and eventually created the Kanohi Vahi. Jaller, accompanied by Bomonga and Kualus, journeyed there to bring it to Metru Nui. Teridax sent Takanuva to intercept and steal the mask. While traveling with them, the group was ambushed by Toa Lesovikk, who spared Takanuva and took the Kanohi Vahi.
[carve] Powers
The Kanohi Vahi contains the Legendary Elemental power of Time. It can filter this sheer power to speed up or slow down time nearby its user. The mask cannot, however, be used for time travel.
The Kanohi Vahi is one of the most dangerous masks known, as it is exceptionally difficult to fully control, even for a Makuta. This was demonstrated when Vakama was unable to prevent the mask from affecting him. It was also shown when Tahu Nuva used the Kanohi Vahi and almost lost control of the mask's power. It is so powerful that if damaged, it leaks its powers out, meaning that to destroy the mask would destroy the fabric of time itself. Losing control of the mask would have the same effect.
[carve] Example Usage
In Legends of Metru Nui, Vakama used the Kanohi Vahi to slow down time around Makuta Teridax. However, he was unable to keep it from affecting himself, too. When his concentration was disrupted, the mask's power pulled back into itself and launched itself away from him.

[carve] Quotes
- "If the mask is damaged, it shouldn't work at all. Instead, it's pouring out power like I have never seen before, and if it sustains any more damage..."
- — Vakama, Time Trap
- "The force of time is contained within that mask. Destroy it, and that power is unleashed upon the universe. Past, present and future all existing at once--warps and rips and hours folding in upon each other--madness and chaos as no two moments ever follow one another...think of it."
- — Vakama, Time Trap
- "It was hard to believe that this simple mask had the power to change a universe-or destroy it."
- — Time Trap
- "What is that? It looks sort of like a mask--but not any mask I've ever seen."
- "It is a mask. The Kanohi Vahi--the Great Mask of Time. It is the most powerful of them all."
- — Tahu Nuva and Vakama, Makuta's Revenge
- "Vakama gave it to me... Along with a warning--that its power might be too great for even a Toa to wield. He was nearly right."
- — Tahu to Gali, Makuta's Revenge
- "It's one thing to control time [...] and another thing to lose control of it all. The Kanohi Vahi can only be used in the direst emergency--when there is nothing to lose."
- — Vakama, Makuta's Revenge
[carve] Set Information
The Kanohi Vahi was the first mask ever designed by The LEGO Group. The original Kanohi Vahi was orange, and was only available through promotions, but since its appearance in the second movie, it was remade in gold and sold in limited edition Vahki sets alongside the Disk of Time. Two gold Kanohi Vahi and two Disks of Time were also available in a limited edition 500 piece tub.
[carve] Trivia
- The Kanohi Vahi was originally scheduled to appear in and come packaged with the cancelled 2001 PC game BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui. When the game was cancelled, the mask was given away at Walgreens promotions in the United States, as well as in several other promotions. It wasn't until 2003, however, that the mask finally appeared in the storyline, used by Tahu Nuva to slow down the Bohrok-Kal. The popularity of the mask further led to it appearing extensively in Legends of Metru Nui, and then later in Time Trap.
- It is impossible to create a Great, Noble, or Matoran version of the Kanohi Vahi.
- The Kanohi Vahi and Kanohi Ignika are on the same power level because Time and Life, respectively are both fundamental forces of the universe.
