The Toa Hordika are a type of Toa transformed by the effects of the Visorak's Hordika Venom. They are essentially half-Toa, half-Rahi creatures. While in Hordika form, the Toa were stripped of their mask and elemental powers, and had to rely on their Rhotuka spinners and combat skills for protection.

[carve] History

[carve] Toa Metru

After their search for a new home for the Matoran, the Toa Metru returned to Metru Nui with plans to move the Matoran to Mata Nui. However, once they returned, they were horrified to find that their once-beautiful city was now devastated.

The Great Cataclysm, having just occurred, reduced the city to rubble. The Onu-Metru Archives had been destroyed, and many types of Rahi had escaped. And worst of all, the sun had been blocked out because there were webs hanging everywhere, casting shadows all over the city. As the Toa headed for the Coliseum to rescue the Matoran, a pack of Visorak ambushed them.

Once they awoke, the Toa found themselves suspended in the air, wrapped in pods made of Visorak webbing. A short while after, they were transformed into the grotesque state known as Hordika. The Rahaga saved the new Toa Hordika and proceeded to teach them how to control their fits of rage that come with being part Rahi.

The Rahaga then explained to the Toa how it was possible for them to revert back to their previous forms - find Keetongu, the legendary Rahi who can reverse the effects of Hordika venom.

The Toa started searching for parts to build an Airship to carry the Matoran in. They then began to search for the Makoki Stones. They also found false evidence stating that they were never meant to be Toa.

Once they located the Avohkii, Onewa encased it in stone as to not attract attention from the Visorak. While the Toa were planning the Matoran's rescue, they had to protect the Tower of the Toa. While protecting it with the Rahaga, the shapeshifting Rahi Krahka, and the enormous Rahi Tahtorak, the tower was invaded by an ambush of hundreds of Visorak and Sidorak, King of the Visorak. Zivon was released from the Field of Shadows as Whenua and Bomonga were captured by the Visorak and were going to be fed to Zivon. Eventually, after an epic battle, the Toa were victorious by trapping the Visorak in the Tower. Toa Vakama, leader of the Toa, felt guilty for their transformation into beasts and eventually lost all faith in himself and joined the opposition, Roodaka and Sidorak, leaders of the Visorak. Vakama was given control over the Visorak by Roodaka and Sidorak, and was told to capture the Rahaga. Vakama was successful in the capture of five of the six Rahaga, leaving Norik with the remaining Toa. The Toa and Norik then traveled Metru Nui in search of Keetongu.

Having come to his location, they pleaded with Keetongu for his help, however, Keetongu refused. Fortunately, Keetongu told them he would help them defeat the Visorak. At the Coliseum, Vakama and his army had taken residence while awaiting the arrival of the Toa and Rahaga. Once they arrived, a fierce battle ensued between four of the Toa and the Visorak, while Norik went to save the remaining Rahaga and Matau went to persuade Vakama to rejoin the Toa.

A cleverly orchestrated plan by Roodaka left Sidorak dead at the hands of Keetongu, so she found it appropriate to intervene with the battle and demand that the Toa give her their elemental powers. Matau and Vakama returned to the battle, with Vakama pretending to still be allied with Roodaka. All of the Hordika, except Vakama, fired their Rhotuka at Roodaka, who then laughed and told them that they were nothing without unity, and Vakama was on her side.

Vakama intervened and told her that he had relinquished his partnership with her, and he set the Visorak free and fired his Rhotuka at her. However, Roodaka had a piece of the Protodermis Cage that Teridax was encased in, and with the combined blasts of the Toa, it freed him. Keetongu then returned the Hordika back into their original forms, and the Toa Metru proceeded to carry the Matoran to Mata Nui with the Airships.

[carve] Savage

The Dark Hunter Savage became a Toa Hordika after he was caught and mutated by the Visorak. Upon returning to his team, he was attacked, as they did not recognize him. In his rage and confusion, he lashed out at them, and fled. He was later recruited into the Dark Hunters.

  • In Web of Shadows, it seemed that the Hordika tools were actually part of their right arm, while a four-fingered hand was their left arm and all the Toa Hordika carry one Toa Tool of theirs, but their sets include two Toa Tools.
