- "We were separate, and without purpose, so the Great Spirit illuminated us with the Three Virtues: Unity, Duty, and... Destiny."
- — Vakama, Mask of Light
The Three Virtues are virtues revered by Matoran seemingly all over, and are:
- Unity
- Duty
- Destiny
The Three Virtues were given by Mata Nui to the Matoran in order to keep them working even after Tren Krom was gone and their primary goal (building the universe) was finished. They are represented by the BIONICLE Logo; more specifically the dots in the middle. Of all the virtues, Unity is often emphasized the most.
Map
The symbol the Matoran use for the Three Virtues is actually a map. Any time a sufficient number of the Rahi called Blade Burrowers are put together they begin to dig tunnels that forms this map. The tunnels in Metru Nui are guarded by what is thought to be either a mutated Kane-Ra or an Artakha Bull. It was the Great Beings who influenced the Rahi to create the map, and they (and recently Brutaka) are the only ones who know what the map means. However, Mata Nui and the Makuta should know but do not.
It is also known that the Symbol of the Three Virtues is meant to serve as a reminder, but of what is uncertain. The map also has a connection to Mata Nui's mission.
Charms
Each Koro on Mata Nui had a Principle derived from one or two Virtues, and in turn, a Kolhii Skill derived from each Principle. Each Virtue was also represented by a Charm.
The Charm of Unity was offered to Hahli by Shasa, and was used:
- In conjunction with the Charms of Purity and Speed to obtain the Crystal of Purity at in a mysterious underwater chamber at coordinates G6 in Naho Bay. The riddle to unlock its door was: All are One... or None.
- In conjunction with the Charms of Duty, Faith, and Accuracy to obtain the Crystal of Faith hidden in a tree cavity above Turaga Matau's chamber. The riddle to unlock its door was: Strength of Numbers.
