History
In legend, Protocairns are villagers from an island who exposed themselves to Energized Protodermis on purpose in order to become more powerful. However, as is with Energized Protodermis, it was a gamble, and instead, they turned into destructive, amphibious beasts. Every now and then, Protocairns appear on island shores and cause immense destruction, even destroying the shore itself in some cases. Oddly enough, Protocairns die soon after this, and their bodies fuse. Unwittingly, they help undo their damage by creating more land, which is then used to build upon.
The land that the Great Temple is built upon was created after an attack by Protocairns, who destroyed the first land. When they live, they are near impossible to stop, and even the Vahki on Metru Nui have little success against them. Parakrekks follow after Protocairns, as they feed off the rubble that they create.
