Proto Drakes are graceful amphibious Rahi that dwell in the Protodermis seas around Metru Nui, and later around the coast of Mata Nui. Their fins allow them to move in water and give them the ability to fly. The Proto Drakes capture prey by using the claws on their fins and tail. They are regarded with great respect by the Ga-Matoran and are a welcome presence in Ga-Metru as they primarily feed on sharks. Proto Drakes actually got their name for their habit in bathing in Ta-Metru vats; Onu-Matoran have theorized that these Rahi do this to remove parasites that attached themselves to the Drake's body.

- The Proto Drake was sent as an entry in to LEGO as part of the LEGO Magazine Rahi-building Contest. It was created by Gar and Keane Secrist and given a name and story role by Greg Farshtey in the book BIONICLE: Rahi Beasts.
