History
The tortoises were some of the first Rahi ever created, brought into existence by the Great Beings and placed on the Southern Continent. When the Great Cataclysm caused the Voya Nui landmass to dislodge from the Matoran Universe and rocket to the surface of Aqua Magna, several tortoises were carried with it.
When the coastal city of Mahri Nui fell into the ocean, these specimens went down with it, and were mutated by the Pit Mutagen in the Black Water. The tortoises were recruited by the Barraki Carapar into his undersea army, and the fiercest served as his personal transport in battle. The surviving tortoises emigrated to Spherus Magna and the mutated ones became amphibians.
Abilities and Traits
Pit War Tortoises were originally land-dwelling, but when Mahri Nui sunk into the sea, they became water-dwellers. They have life spans in excess of 100,000 years.
Carapar also mounted two Squid Launchers on all of his Tortoises.
Set Information
The Pit War Tortoise can be built out of the Barraki sets Ehlek, Carapar, and Mantax using instructions included in the January-February 2007 issue of LEGO Brickmaster magazine. These instructions could also be found on BIONICLE.com. This model depicts the mutated form of the tortoises in the Pit.
