Mount Valmai is an active volcano on Voya Nui. This volcano has stood for generations, and lays on top of the chamber of the Mask of Life. Its lava flow is composed of molten Protodermis. It is known to be extremely unstable and the Matoran who live on Voya Nui have become extremely used to the vibrations of an eruption. When the six Piraka arrived on Voya Nui, they attempted to empty this Volcano by enslaving the Matoran and forcing them to dig trenches out of the volcano, but were unsuccessful. The Toa Nuva were almost thrown into the crater of this volcano, but managed to escape their fate thanks to a timely eruption. It also has something to do with "The Legends of Mt. Valmai".

Since Voya Nui sank into the ocean, the status of Mount Valmai is unknown.

The word "Valmai" is a word in an ancient Matoran dialect that few would recognize. Valmai doesn't translate literally, but the closest translation is "cursed place".
