Matoran Homes are the dwellings in which Matoran live, and come in a range of sizes and shapes. They are fashioned from various materials, usually resources which Matoran have on hand, and contain personal belongings and treasures.
Metru Nui
Homes on Metru Nui are very urban in design and functionality. Most feature Lightstones for illumination and are filled with items related to the Matoran's occupation. Some Matoran keep small Rahi as pets, although a law created by Turaga Dume dictated that Rahi larger than two feet and three inches (0.5 bio) were not permitted to be kept. Kanoka Disks of special value are often affixed to the wall of a house for decoration. Many houses contain a secret compartment or safe for storing valuable items or diaries.
Ta-Metru
Ta-Metru houses are made of normal Protodermis. Inside a Ta-Matoran Mask Maker's house, one might find decorative plaques of Kanoka and the Kanohi that they had been turned into. Ta-Matoran usually work on small desks in their houses. Sleep pallets were present for when the residents were not at work.
Ga-Metru
Ga-Metru houses are made of metallic Protodermis. Inside, there are records of Ga-Matoran study achievements and other school-related objects. Students usually keep copies of their school work. Many homes also contain miniature versions of the Protodermis Purification devices at the Ga-Metru Schools for homework purposes.
Le-Metru
Le-Metru houses are made of normal Protodermis. Le-Matoran often attach maps of the Chute system to their walls. Some contain small models of a paticular section of the Chute system. Although Orkahm's house is not an example of this, many Le-Matoran keep their houses in a constant state of messiness.
Po-Metru
Po-Metru houses are fashioned out of protodermic stone. Inside, Po-Matoran Carvers mount carvings of theirs on small pedestals for display. A desk with overhead Lightstone lighting was also a common feature for working in the home. Carvers also usually kept blocks of uncarved Protodermis in their homes.
Onu-Metru
Onu-Metru homes are made of normal Protodermis and are located on the surface of the Metru. Onu-Matoran Archivists keep their collections of special items in large display cases. There are also many compartments and filing cabinets for organizing tablets of importance.
Ko-Metru
Ko-Metru houses are made in crystal-like Protodermis. They are sparsely decorated, but have been known to contain Chute maps and small Protodermis basins to display miniature Knowledge Towers. As a general rule, Ko-Metru has few houses, as many Ko-Matoran live inside Knowledge Towers.
Mata Nui
In each of the Koro on the island of Mata Nui, the Matoran made simple, yet effective homes to reside in. These homes were not as luxurious as their Metru Nui counterparts and were more survival-based than comfort-based. Many of these homes were improved upon or upgraded following the defeat of the Bohrok-Kal. Some of these homes were damaged or destroyed by the Rahkshi's efforts to locate the Kanohi Avohkii. However, all homes on Mata Nui were eventually destroyed by the reawakened Bohrok swarms.
Ta-Koro
The Ta-Matoran made homes out of hardened lava, and each added his own personal touches to make it unique. Many of these homes were built into the walls of the fortress itself. These homes were all destroyed when Ta-Koro was sunk by the Rahkshi.
Ga-Koro
The Ga-Matoran made use of seaweed and wove it together to create huts. Most Ga-Matoran homes had a small vial which contained a glowing Lightfish for illumination. Homes were often decorated with a plaque of a large fish they had caught. Houses contained items which were related to the Matoran's occupation or chores. For example, Nixie's house featured a large telescope for observing the Wall of Stars. In many cases, a Ga-Koro house's construction also accomodated the Matoran's occupation. When Ga-Koro was rebuilt after the strike of the Bohrok-Kal, Nixie's house became two-tiered, with the telescope moved to the upper floor to facilitate better viewing of the stars.
Le-Koro
The Le-Matoran simply fashioned their homes out of tree bark, and kept musical instruments in their homes.
Po-Koro
In Po-Koro, the Po-Matoran carved their houses out of stone. Like those of Ta-Koro, Po-Koro homes were simple, usually consisting a bed and sometimes a Kolhii trophy or two. Some Matoran, such as Hewkii, kept a doll of their friends.
Onu-Koro
The Onu-Matoran carved their houses out of earth. Each house had a Lightstone for illumination. These houses suffered considerable damage when the cavern they lived in was flooded by Gahlok. Their homes were later buried when a cave-in was caused by a battle with invading Rahkshi.
Ko-Koro
In Ko-Koro, the Ko-Matoran carved their homes from ice. Little else is known about a Ko-Matoran's house.
Southern Continent
Voya Nui
Voya Nui huts are made from packed earth or stone, as seen in the Voya Nui Online Game. They also include simple wooden furnishings. Many of these huts were destroyed during Voya Nui's return to the Southern Continent. They were rebuilt by the Matoran, although abandoned during the massive exodus following the Battle of Bara Magna, rendering their universe uninhabitable.
Mahri Nui
Little has been revealed about these structures. They were destroyed when Voya Nui made impact with Mahri Nui, due to the outcroppings that were attached to the island during Voya Nui's return.
Northern Continent
Tren Krom Peninsula
Matoran had doors covering the entrances to their homes unlike some others, and had furniture such as chairs and sleep mats.
Karda Nui
The Av-Matoran of Karda Nui either built thatched roof huts atop the stalactites that they live on, made out of plants or mud from the Swamp of Secrets, or out of the Stalactites rock. All of the homes in Karda Nui were destroyed in the ongoing Energy Storms.
