The Lightstone Mines in Onu-Metru were the source of all the Lightstones in Metru Nui. Protodermis was mined there as well. Working in the mines was not considered the most desirable job in Onu-Metru; partly because being an Archivist was considered more glamorous, and partly because the mines sometimes harbored dangerous Rahi or Rahkshi. The mines extended deep under Metru Nui, deep enough for one to accidentally break into a Bohrok Nest.

Once the materials were extracted, they were shipped up to the surface to be picked up by Airships through Lightstone Mine towers that dotted the surface of the Metru.
