Lava Rats are small, rodent-like Rahi.
History
The Lava Rat species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.
After the Great Cataclysm, a small population of Lava Rats migrated to Mata Nui, and took up residence in Ta-Wahi. They later returned to the Matoran Universe after the Bohrok cleansed the island
Lava Rats migrated to Spherus Magna when Makuta Teridax was defeated.
Abilities and Traits
Lava Rats are known for their ability to burst into flames as a defense mechanism, a fire which they are immune to. They also possess two small horns.

- A morality tale was told on Mata Nui, depicting a Lava Rat and a Takea shark crossing a river.
