"Kratana" are mysterious sentient creatures that have the power to see into the future and the past.

Little is known about when, why, and how these things came into existence. It is known, however, that Krana were not created from it, and Kraata weren't based off it. It is also not a parasite and it has not been revealed yet how they come into being.
A "Kratana" attached itself to Toa Metru Onewa in Teridax's lair and gave him a vision of the future and of the Visorak. This "Kratana" was incinerated by Vakama.
In Metru Nui, a "Kratana" attacked Vakama in another of Teridax's lairs, and gave him a vision of Krakua. It was pulled off of Vakama's face by Teridax.
The "Kratana" were described by Helryx as pets, and it has been confirmed that they were created by the Order of Mata Nui. A "Kratana" was used by Takanuva under the directions of Helryx and Krakua so that he could see the recollections of the Toa Mata's past and the dangers which they will face when they reawaken Mata Nui.
[carve] Abilities and Traits
A "Kratana" looks like a cross between a Krana and a Kraata, having the long body of a Kraata and detailed ridge marks along its body like a Krana. It affixes itself to a being's face much like a Krana does, although, unlike Krana, it can still attach itself even if the target is still wearing a mask. It can also move incredibly fast.
The "Kratana" has the ability to give others visions of the future and the past. It does so by attaching itself to their face or mask. How this works is unknown, although it is a natural power of the "Kratana."
