Knowledge Towers are huge crystalline structures, and are among the largest buildings in Metru Nui. Inside, Ko-Metru Scholars study and analyze, trying to predict the future. These Scholars are incredibly focused on their work and rarely speak unless it is absolutely necessary. The Knowledge Towers are also used to store various documents, both for reference by scholars for their work, and for better preservation due to the cold temperatures. Normally, most Matoran are forbidden from entering, however, on Naming Days, the Towers open their astronomical observatories to all citizens, so they can experience the shooting stars.

The Towers reach so high that their rooftops are often covered with ice, but despite their size, Knowledge Towers are extremely fragile. Even the presence of the Vahki and the cold of Ko-Metru did not stop the Morbuzakh from wrecking several Knowledge Towers. To regrow a Knowledge Tower, a special crystal slightly larger than a Toa's hand, called a Knowledge Crystal, must be placed in a prepared Protodermis basin. The new Tower will then grow from that basin.

Toa Metru Nuju recovered Ko-Metru's Great Disk from inside an icicle hanging from one of the highest Knowledge Towers.

The Impact Crystal Launcher creates miniature versions of Knowledge Towers to trap their targets in.
