The Kikanalo are large, herbivorous Rahi that tend to travel in herds and were very common on Metru Nui. Despite the fact that they appear frightening, they are usually gentle creatures.
They are quite independent from Matoran and their doings, but Nokama managed to use her Mask of Translation to communicate with the chief of the herd, and through that link she and the other Toa Metru were able to cooperate. While they were once dismissed as dumb beasts, after Nokama communicated with these Rahi it was accepted that the Kikanalo are actually quite intelligent.
While once common, Metru Nui's Kikanalo population started to drop when the Visorak conquered the city. This was mainly due to the fact that the Kikanalo were too proud to run or hide from the spiders, preferring to challenge them instead. These clashes, however, usually ended with the Kikanalo losing. By the time the Visorak invasion was over, Metru Nui's Kikanalo population was near extinction.
Some Kikanalo later migrated to Po-Wahi on Mata Nui, but they originally came from Metru Nui, so the numbers on Mata Nui were extremely low.
Kikanalo live on the Southern Continent as well. Piraka Hakann annihilated a herd on Voya Nui with a mental blast because they were "blocking his view". The rest of the Kikanalo may not have survived the island's descent.
[carve] Mutant Kikanalo
There was a form of Kikanalo that was mutated by the Hordika Venom of the Visorak. Only one is known.
[carve] Defenses
- Stampeding over foes is a common defense.
- If the Kikanalo are still pursued, they are able to unleash a powerful "sonic roar" that can blow enemies away. They can also use this in different ways, such as sealing off the Toa Metru's path so that Nidhiki and Krekka couldn't follow them.
[carve] Set Information
A Kikanalo can be found together with Toa Lhikan in the #8811 Lhikan and Kikanalo set. Though sold together, Lhikan was actually never seen using one as a mount in the storyline. Along with Lhikan, the set contained 214 pieces.
[carve] Trivia
- Kikanalo are the only type of rahi that aren't considered enemies of Catapult Scorpions.
