[carve] Biography

Hydraxon was originally in the Hand of Artakha. After its disbanding, he joined the Order of Mata Nui, and recruited fellow former Hand member Axonn into the Order. One of Hydraxon's first Order missions was to train the Toa Mata. Hydraxon did that using multiple methods, including physical assaults, challenging their Three Virtues, and releasing his Energy Hound, Spinax, on the Toa, though he claimed the latter was a training exercise for the hound, not the Toa. While conversing with Gali, he mentioned his next assignment, and became very grave about it and his next trainees. Upon finishing his training with the Toa, he became the Pit's jailer.

As a Pit Jailer, he was helped by a few guardian robots and Spinax, but later gave it to one of the Maxilos robots.

Hydraxon was severely injured when the Great Cataclysm hit the Pit, shattering its dome and causing a cave-in. Takadox came across the wounded Hydraxon and killed him. His body remains buried under tons of rubble, somewhere in the original Pit.

Hydraxon in BIONICLE: Toa Mahri.

A Po-Matoran named Dekar was making his way back to the city of Mahri Nui from a nearby sea cave, running short of air after his experiences with the Kanohi Ignika and escape from the Barraki. Suddenly, he began to have visions of another figure in a totally different environment. Though he did not realize it, he had been transformed into a near-perfect replica of the late Hydraxon by the Mask of Life. The mask had decided it needed protection, and Dekar was the only being in the area besides the Barraki. With Dekar's mind and memories completely buried under Hydraxon's, the newly reborn Hydraxon continued his journey, although with a different reason. Believing every living being except himself, Rahi, his guard robots, and Energy Hounds to be Pit escapees, Hydraxon recruited one of the Maxilos robots and embarked on a quest to capture everything in the open ocean.

Upon arriving at Mahri Nui, Hydraxon spotted and promptly captured the Toa Mahri named Matoro, threw him in a jail cell, and introduced him to Maxilos and Spinax, whom he was entrusting to the robot. He then left the cell, unaware that Maxilos had been taken over by the essence of Teridax. Hydraxon later spied on a Barraki strategy meeting, defeated the powerful Nocturn in single combat, and came into possession of the Mask of Life. Remembering a faint memory from Dekar, he opened fire on the mask with his Cordak Blaster, believing it not safe for it to be in the Pit. Toa Hahli redirected the Cordak mini-rocket with a riptide and began a fight with him.

Their fight concluded when Mantax came into possession of the Ignika. Both Hahli and Hydraxon sought to vanquish the warlord, but both Hydraxon and Hahli sank to the bottom after coming within 50 yards of the Barraki due to the Mask of Life's curse over Mantax. Mantax then told them to tell the other Barraki to meet him at the Razor Whale's Teeth, although Hydraxon responded that he did not make deals with runners. Mantax was able to get away with his army of Underwater Rays.

When Mantax had gained enough distance, both Hydraxon and Hahli regained their strength. Hydraxon immediately looked for Nocturn, only to discover that he had escaped again. He then glared at Hahli and grumbled at her for interfering. Despite Hahli's vain attempt to find out who Hydraxon was, the jailer left the scene in pursuit of Mantax.

Hydraxon later met with Maxilos in an undersea mountain overlooking the Barraki's meeting place. Maxilos attempted to persuade Hydraxon to chase after the remaining five Barraki and six Toa Mahri instead. When Hydraxon refused to do so, Maxilos revealed that the armor was being possessed by Teridax. Following the brief shock of realization, Hydraxon summoned Spinax to attack Teridax using an ancient dialect of Matoran. When Spinax was defeated, Hydraxon, knowing the amount of power a Makuta may hold, attacked first by digging wrist blades into Maxilos' legs. In response, Maxilos unleashed a power scream, knocking Hydraxon down. Hydraxon, refusing to be defeated, aimed his Cordak Blaster at the undersea mountain and fired, burying Maxilos/Teridax in a pile of rubble.

Hydraxon then proceeded to Jaller, who had retrieved the mask. Unfortunately, Hydraxon was suddenly attacked by Spinax. After Hydraxon pushed the beast from his body, Maxilos (now freed from the rubble) came forward and knocked Hydraxon unconscious.

Later, Hydraxon encountered the Toa Mahri. When he demanded for the mask, Matoro offered it and the attached duty to the jailer. Hydraxon listened to the words, and conceded that something was indeed fundamentally wrong with the universe. He agreed to let the Toa Mahri go with the Ignika, as long as they keep out of his way in the future. As he departed, Toa Mahri Hahli observed that while Hydraxon was attempting to recapture the lost prisoners, he is actually the one who is lost.

After the battle and the revival of Mata Nui, Hydraxon came across the damaged body of Maxilos. He retrieved the body, now freed from Teridax's control, and took it away in vain hope of repairing it. Hydraxon then began attempting to recapture the escaped prisoners, still unaware of his past life as the Matoran Dekar.

As he and Spinax continued his task to capture escapees, he was met with assistance from Lesovikk, who he initially refused help from in thinking that the Toa, and his Matoran companion, Sarda, were prisoners. However, after realizing they were not, he relented and allied with the duo.

Since then, they managed to capture the four remaining Barraki and Nocturn. Shortly afterwards, he received a message from Helryx ordering him to draft the Barraki in the Order's war against the Brotherhood of Makuta.

[carve] Abilities and Traits

Hydraxon is emotionally cold, has a strong sense of justice, and is dedicated to his job, never giving up on re-capturing escapees. As with all Order of Mata Nui members, Hydraxon's mind is shielded against telepathy and mental attacks. He is also a master of weaponry, and an expert at all sorts of combat tactics and with all types of weapons. Using his expertise with his armament, he was able to defeat even the physically superior Nocturn. However, Hydraxon also has very sensitive hearing, something Nocturn used against him during their fight by banging rocks together.

Several key differences exist between the old and new Hydraxon, courtesy of the Mask of Life:

  • Whereas the original Hydraxon could breathe air and not water, the new Hydraxon breathes water and cannot breathe air.
  • The new Hydraxon is immune to the Pit Mutagen.
  • While the section of the new Hydraxon's mind that holds all memories of his being an Order of Mata Nui member is shielded, the section of his mind that holds his now-repressed memories as a Matoran is not, and therefore accessible to mind-readers.

[carve] Tools

Being a weapons expert, Hydraxon possesses a wide range of weaponry and tools. Hydraxon carries a Cordak Blaster, Back Blades, and Wrist Blades. He also has claws, along with Exploding Boomerangs. He also wears thick, protective armor.

  • The new Hydraxon is technically not a member of the Order of Mata Nui, but as he thinks he is the real Hydraxon, and as the Order is unaware of the original Hydraxon's death, nor the origin of the new jailer, the Order permits him to continue his job.
