The Hand of Artakha was an ancient organization that dedicated itself to carrying out the Great Spirit's will and protect the Matoran.

Predating even the first Toa, the Hand of Artakha was disbanded around 100,000 years ago, after about two centuries of service. Its members, while technically on the side of good, tended to be overly undisciplined, and generally did more harm than good; thus, the Hand was replaced by Mata Nui's chosen champions, the Toa. A number of its members were later recruited into the Order of Mata Nui, the Hand's successor.
