History

The Furnace Salamander species was created by the Makuta using Viruses and Liquid Protodermis to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe.

A population of Salamanders settled in Ta-Metru in Metru Nui. They inhabited the dark corners and crevices of furnaces and foundries, sharing their territory with Hikaki. Even the Matoran workers don't see this Rahi very often.

When the Morbuzakh attacked Metru Nui, the Salamanders were forced out of the Great Furnace, but the Matoran didn't view it as significant. When the Visorak invaded Metru Nui, most of the furnaces were destroyed, so these Rahi lived near the volcanic vents filled with Liquid Protodermis that surrounded Ta-Metru.

Abilities and Traits

These Rahi have long, powerful limbs that let them jump over great distances and scamper quickly across the ground, sharp claws that let them cling to almost any surface, and even short spiny wings that let them glide over short distances. When straightened up, the Furnace Salamander is almost the same height as a Toa, although they prefer to move hunched. If endangered, these Rahi attack in large swarms (since they are always in the midst of their nestmates), quickly overcoming a foe. The Salamander's bite, as Matoran describe it, is like "a thousand red hot needles."

Trivia

  • The Furnace Salamander was an entry sent in to LEGO as part of the LEGO Magazine Rahi-building Contest. It was created by Casey Kinsey and given a name and story role by Greg Farshtey in the book BIONICLE: Rahi Beasts.
