[carve] Summary

The Toa Nuva, after arriving on Voya Nui, scouted around the area. Soon, they encountered two Piraka, Hakann and Reidak. As the Toa Nuva fought against them, Hakann deserted Reidak, and attempted to flee the battle. Before he could leave, he was joined by Zaktan, and the three Piraka began pummeling the Toa. Soon, they were joined by their allies, Avak and Thok, and were badly beating the Toa. Kopaka was soon felled by Avak, as was Gali by Hakann. While Pohatu, Onua, and Lewa took down Reidak, Tahu fought Zaktan in a clash of metal. He, too, was defeated by Zaktan and rendered unconscious. After Lewa, Onua, and Pohatu imprisoned Reidak, they came back to the scene of the original battle. Surprised, Lewa and Pohatu were quickly taken down. Onua, badly outnumbered, made a last-ditch effort to win. Before he could make it to his teammates and revive them, he was annihilated. The Toa Nuva were stripped of their weapons and Kanohi Nuva and taken to Mount Valmai. As all the Piraka, minus Zaktan, prepared to throw the heroes into the volcano, the mountain began shaking. Followed by an eruption, the Piraka ran, allowing the Toa Nuva a chance to escape.

Avak and Thok were out searching for the Toa Nuva after the heroes had escaped. They ended up near The Green Belt, the mysterious forest on the island. Avak was puzzling over how the Belt could exist when Thok suggested that the Ignika's power of Life was causing the forest to grow. Deciding that Zaktan was tricking them into draining the volcano whilst the Mask was really in the Green Belt, Avak rushed back to the Piraka Stronghold to confront his leader. Thok arrived later, surprised to find one of them was actually winning. Avak had used his prison power to create a resonance field around Zaktan which produced a painful hum every time he struck the cube. As Thok prepared to take over as leader of the Piraka, Hakann burst into the room, accompanied by Brutaka. Hakann had promised to get control of the Zamor vat for the titan, and as Zaktan was trapped, he had technically kept the promise. Brutaka then proceeded to battle Avak and Thok, as Hakann had ordered.

The Toa Nuva soon recovered from their exploits with the Piraka, and gained allies in the form of the Voya Nui Resistance Team. After a brief conflict with them, resulting from a misunderstanding, the Toa and Matoran alike arrived at the Piraka Stronghold, where they met Reidak. Lewa, wanting revenge from the earlier battle, quickly fought, and outsmarted the Piraka. Reidak retreated back into the Stronghold, leaving the gate open. The Toa took an underground route, and recovered their masks and tools.

After being beaten, Reidak went back into the Virus Vat room, and found it in a complete form of disarray. Sensing that Hakann was behind this, he picked Hakann up, and threw him at Avak. Both knocked unconscious, Zaktan was freed from his prison, and, before he could anything, was quickly confronted by the Toa Nuva. Zaktan, fruitlessly, tried to order the other Piraka into attacking the Toa and Matoran. While the Toa Nuva charged at Zaktan, Zaktan pleaded to Brutaka, saying that he would share the secret of the virus with him, and Brutaka would also receive all the Antidermis he wished. Motivated, Brutaka struck down the 12 combatants, knocking them unconscious.

[carve] Aftermath

The Toa Nuva were taken into Brutaka's custody while the Matoran were hauled in for questioning. Though some Piraka still held a loose alliance, they were disbanded as a team - and Zaktan kept a special watch over Avak.
