The Chamber of Life is a room under the Lake of Lava of Mount Valmai where the Kanohi Ignika, the Mask of Life, was hidden. The only way to enter the Chamber is through the 777 Stairs, the entrance of which is located in the Green Belt, or by traveling through Mount Valmai.
The Chamber is guarded by Umbra, a being whose sole purpose is to guard the Mask of Life. The Chamber has only been breached three times in its existence. The first time, Jovan and his team retrieved the Ignika and used it to heal Mata Nui. The second time was when Vezon was seeking the Ignika, and was permitted to enter only to become one of its many guardians. The third time was when the Toa Inika and the Piraka fought Vezon and Fenrakk for the mask.
At this instance of penetration, the Piraka arrived in the Chamber first and spoke with Vezon briefly before he attacked with Spear of Fusion, fusing Reidak and Vezok into a massive beast which defeated the other Piraka and was subsequently separated into the two Piraka who were left unconscious. The Toa Inika then entered and fought Vezon and Fenrakk, having difficulty due to the pair's ability to absorb the energy from attacks directed at them. After a fight, during which Fenrakk was transformed into the Kardas Dragon, the Toa Inika ultimately triumphed, gaining possession of the Ignika. They soon left the chamber, pursued by the Piraka, chasing the Ignika which had been shot out of their hands by the Kardas Dragon and flew upwards.
