Botar was a member of the Order of Mata Nui, whose primary duty was to capture those who had committed acts the Order had deemed unforgivable and banish them to The Pit. It was also not uncommon to see Botar dispatched on a mission to transport objects or beings wherever they needed to go.

[carve] Biography
Order of Mata Nui records identify Botar as part of a savage race from an island in the far south of the Matoran Universe. The first record of his actions on behalf of the Order dates back to approximately 80,000 years before the time of the Toa Inika. After the defeat of the League of Six Kingdoms by the Brotherhood of Makuta, Botar appeared before Makuta Teridax and halted his execution of the Barraki, instead taking them to the Pit.
Roughly 3,500 years before the time of the Toa Inika, a Toa of Water named Tuyet was found guilty of the murder of three Matoran in the city of Metru Nui. Toa Lhikan and Turaga Dume attempted to determine a fitting punishment for the rogue Toa, but that night, she was taken to the Pit by Botar without the knowledge of anyone else.
When Brutaka was defeated by Axonn on Voya Nui and knocked unconscious, Botar was dispatched to banish him to the Pit. Despite Axonn's pleas and protests, Botar took Brutaka away--even going so far as to threaten Axonn with Brutaka's punishment should Axonn attempt to hinder him. Axonn and Botar then met with the recently freed Toa Nuva, where they revealed the Toa's new mission - to prepare the universe for Mata Nui's awakening. Later, when a Tahtorak that had mysteriously appeared on the island began to threaten the Matoran, Axonn summoned Botar to teleport it away. Botar complied, though he dropped it off on the island of Xia as a sort of joke. Finally, in The Pit, when the powerful Staff of Artakha was stolen by the Makuta Teridax (in the body of the robot Maxilos), it was stolen back by Brutaka, who quickly summoned Botar to take it where even Teridax could not follow. Botar stayed in the Pit long enough to nod his thanks to his former teammate before disappearing again.
After the Battle of Brutaka and Teridax ended, Botar was dispatched to retrieve Brutaka again - this time, Botar took Brutaka to Daxia, where he was fitted with a breathing apparatus and given the potentially suicidal mission to lead a team of villains to rescue Makuta Miserix. Meanwhile, Botar was sent to transport the Toa Nuva to Daxia, where they witnessed the use of the Staff of Artakha that restored the Matoran Universe to its pre-Great Cataclysm state. Then, when Karzahni was defeated by Lesovikk, Sarda, and Idris in The Pit, Botar teleported the mad being to Daxia as well - this time, for confinement under the watchful eye of the Order.
Botar's final mission was in support of Brutaka's team. He and fellow Order member Trinuma were dispatched to deliver a weapons cache to Brutaka's team. The two members purchased the weapons on Xia, then took them to a small, wooded island near the Southern Continent for Brutaka and his team to retrieve. However, Makuta Icarax noted the purchases, followed the pair and attacked them. During the ensuing battle, Botar was crushed by Icarax's magnetic power. Since his death, Botar has been replaced by another of his species.
[carve] Abilities and Traits
Botar had great confidence in the rightness of the Order of Mata Nui's work and equated it with the will of Mata Nui. Occasionally, he would show a sense of humor, such as teleporting a Tahtorak to Xia.
Botar's job description was simple: when a being who had committed an unpardonable crime had been defeated, he teleported to the location of the being's defeat, captured the being, and deposited that being in the Pit. He did not actually take part in defeating the criminal himself, leaving that to others.
One of Botar's greatest assets was his hideous physical appearance. With a "lean, strong body topped by a monstrous head with a tooth-filled maw," Botar was said to be able to "give a Visorak nightmares". Besides his frightening looks, Botar was known for his pure good/evil view of the world, his single-minded devotion to his job (he was so dedicated to the rightness of his cause that he would threaten more powerful beings with imprisonment in the Pit if they challenged him), and his long list of successes - in all of recorded history, Botar never failed to deliver his captives to the Pit. The mere mention of his name gave the mighty warrior Brutaka pause during his final battle with Axonn, and he once even startled Makuta Teridax.
Besides his fearsome appearance, Botar was known to have three special abilities:
- He could teleport himself and his captives anywhere. He did not have to have been to his destination before being able to teleport there. This is a power shared by all members of his race.
- Botar knew where he was needed, and when. It is unknown how he received this information, but when someone or something that needed to be teleported elsewhere was in the hands of an ally, Botar would appear there without fail.
- If his captives were still in a state where they could resist capture, Botar could bind them with tendrils of energy. He did this to the six Barraki.
Botar was not, however, immune to the Pit Mutagen; he simply never had stayed long enough to be mutated when depositing criminals.
[carve] Tools
Botar had large blades on both arms and was also seen carrying an axe-like weapon, all made of Protosteel. As no records exist of his ever using his tools, their powers, if any, remain unknown.
[carve] Set Information
Botar was released in set form as the combiner model of Axonn and Brutaka. His instructions were included online at BIONICLE.com. He wielded his enigmatic axelike weapon in this set.
