The Bahrag were created by the Great Beings with the sole purpose of cleansing the island of Mata Nui. They were not given the knowledge of anything beyond the relevance of their task; therefore they have no knowledge of any other beings, such as Teridax or the Toa Mata.

The earliest record of the Bahrag is on a carving in the tunnels below the island of Mata Nui. This carving depicts the Bahrag dipping a mysterious object into Energized Protodermis, and emerging with a Krana, a practice the Bahrag have been known to do.

The Bahrag were awoken via a sonic signal sent by Teridax. Due to the lack of instructions on how to deal with being woken up prematurely, they logically assumed it was time to cleanse the island, and set the Bohrok to do their job. Though they encountered several unpredicted obstacles, the Bahrag managed to overcome each one by their preferred method of assimilating the foe into the swarm. They remained in their nest for several days, directing the Bohrok as per their task.

The Bahrag were soon confronted by the six Toa Mata, who had successfully acquired eight breeds of Krana and unlocked the Exo-Toa armor. The Bahrag recognized the Toa Mata as fellow servants of Mata Nui, and referred to them as such. However, they were attacked, and retaliated accordingly. Three Toa clashed with Gahdok, while the other three fought against Cahdok. The Toa Mata slowly gained the upper hand, due to the extra power afforded to them by the Exo-Toa. However, as the Bahrag were slowly cornered in the same chamber, their own power of symbiosis increased their powers immensely, to the point where even a blast from the Exo-Toa dissolved several feet from them. Having battled to a stalemate, the Toa willingly shed their suits, regaining their hampered Elemental Powers. Realizing that they could not defeat the Bahrag, the Toa Mata combined their elemental powers in a last ditch effort, forming a Toa Seal, and trapped the Bahrag inside. This triggered their fall into tubes of Energized Protodermis, transforming them into the Toa Nuva.

The defeat of the Bahrag triggered the release of the Bohrok-Kal, six elite Bohrok meant to free the Bahrag so that they could continue their task. Though the Bohrok-Kal managed to defeat most of the obstacles and locate the Bahrag, they were overpowered by energy fed to them by the Nuva Symbols, and stopped inches short of freeing their masters. The Bahrag remained trapped in a Protodermis cage, waiting to be released so that they could continue to do their job.

Months later, the Bahrag were approached by the Toa Nuva, who had realized that the cleansing of Mata Nui was vital to the survival of the universe. Using their elemental powers, they unlocked the seal containing the queens. After a brief conversation, the Bahrag sent a signal to the Bohrok, awakening the swarms once more. From there, they continued their appointed task, clearing the island of Mata Nui. Though they encountered more unexpected resistance this time from the Kardas Dragon, the Bohrok swarms eventually overcame all obstacles and completed their job. Their task done, the Bahrag returned to hibernation, awaiting the time when Mata Nui would need to be cleared once more.

[carve] Abilities and Traits

The Bahrag have all the elemental abilities of the Bohrok, and a wider range of them.

The Bahrag also possess the power to create powerful illusions, which they use to protect their nest from intruders. They can also communicate telepathically to the Krana.

The Bahrag are symbiotic, drawing power from each other. The closer they get to each other, the more concentrated their powers become. When they stand next to each other, their defensive capabilities were so great that a blast from an Exo-Toa exploded a few feet away from them, stopped by an invisible barrier.

Cahdok and Gahdok were released as a single boxed set in the summer of 2002, containing 630 pieces. Their tails acted as handles so one could more easily pull the trigger in their torsos which made them thrust their necks forward while biting with their mouths. When one bit and removed the other's chest, the other would be incapacitated as if in injury. In this way the Bahrag's biting function was advertised as a means for the two to battle each other or another set. The two could be distinguished by their antennae (Cahdok's are long and thin while Gahdok's are clubbed) or their color (Cahdok is blue while Gahdok is red). Instructions were also included with the set to build a non-canon, alternate model.

  • The Bahrag called the Toa their "brothers", referring to the fact that they serve the same greater power; that of the will of the Great Spirit Mata Nui.
  • The Bahrag are not Rahi, even though Matoran would classify them as such.
  • Originally, the Bahrag were to be called "Bahraq," but this was later changed for unknown reasons.
