Editing Tutorial

What is Editing?

Editing is the main feature and purpose of the wiki. Editing allows you to directly modify most of the content on a wiki, allowing you to add in new content for an article or to correct mistakes which you may spot on the article. Sometimes, you can use editing to add in description to things such as images, so that the viewer will have a better understanding as to how to do it.

How to Edit

Editing a page/article is very simple. Here on BS01, all you need to do is click on the "carve" button at the top of the page, and you will be taken to a new page which has a row of icons and beneath it, a large box containing the text source of the article. To edit, simply modify the contents to the large text box if you need to.

Not all pages, however, can be edited. Some pages, such as the Main Page, is specially protected by the Wiki Staff to prevent unnecessary edits. Userpages are also automatically protected from edits by outsiders, meaning only you and the staff can edit your userpage. The pages which are protected have a button which reads "activate akaku" instead of the "carve" button as you normally see if the page is open for editing.

How to Revert a Previous Edit

Sometimes, you will notice that another member may have placed information which is incorrect or is considered as SPAM (Stupid, Pointless, Annoying Messages) or vandalism (Purposeful destruction of pages). If this happens, you can help the wiki by reverting the edits.

To revert, click on the "archives" tab at the top of the page, and select the time and date of the edit which you want to revert to. (It is often the edit before the wrong edit, although this may not be the case, and thus you will have to check to make sure) Make sure that it is the right edit to revert to, click on "carve" and ignore the text in bold. Click "Save page" and voila! The edit is reverted.

Coding Tricks

There are many types of coding you can use on a page to improve it. Such information is detailed on the Coding tutorials.
