Airweed are plants found around Mahri Nui that naturally produce air. The Hydruka have been tamed by the Matoran to harvest the bubbles of air to help them survive. When Mahri Nui sunk, it hit the Air Fields, causing the Airweed to release thousands of little bubbles. The Matoran were able to reinforce the bubbles to surround the city's buildings in time to pump the mutagen-filled water out.
