Template talk:SetsNav

From BIONICLEsector01

Ok, editing templates is evidently more complicated than I thought. I noticed that there was a typo (Huki's link tries to send you to Set:1338 instead of Set:1388), so I tried to change that, as well as add links to the newly-created Turaga set pages. However, it didn't seem to work. When in the Set space, the Huki link still goes to Set:1338, despite my edit, and the Turaga links still go to their Main space pages. Also, since the template has two different versions depending if you're in the Main space or the Set space (at least, as far as I can tell), the preview function shows the main space version, so I can't quite tell what's going on. Even when in the Set space, the "see full list" link at the bottom also goes to the Main space version of the full Sets template, too. I thought I made the exact same change as Angel Bob did a little while ago, but evidently something didn't work quite right. Can anyone tell how to fix this? Thanks! --Volitak Boxor (talk) 22:33, 7 May 2015 (CEST)

Never mind, everything looks like it's in order now. Do template changes take a little while to propagate across the wiki? Or maybe it was just my computer/browser acting up... --Volitak Boxor (talk) 01:45, 8 May 2015 (CEST)
Glad the issue solved itself. Normally caching isn't too much of a problem, but I've noticed it can take a while for template changes to appear if they're used on a lot of pages. Template:SetsNav is used on ~250 pages, so I'm guessing that's what was going on. -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 06:20, 8 May 2015 (CEST)

The recent changes to the template are working in the individual years' boxes, but the full version of the template (bottom half of the code) hasn't been similarly updated. I can try and work on it at some point if I have time later, but it's an issue that needs to be addressed continually as new links are added/changed. --Volitak Boxor (talk) 17:01, 10 May 2015 (CEST)

Realistically the best thing to do would be to make one massive change to avoid repeatedly going back to it. That can be done whenever. -- Dorek Talk External Image 01:16, 11 May 2015 (CEST)

Uniter and Creature Set Names

The Uniter and Creature set names on the LEGO Shop site don't have dashes, unlike the 2015 sets. It's shown as "Tahu Uniter of Fire", not "Tahu - Uniter of Fire". I don't really care whether we keep the dashes or not, since I think they look better and match 2015, but it's an issue to consider. If we do keep the dashes, then I vote to also capitalize Set in Kopaka and Melum - Unity set, though. --Volitak Boxor (talk) 04:31, 30 December 2015 (CET)

You're right; I had only been looking AT Kopaka and Melum, and assumed the others would have dashes as well. Remove the dashes! -- Dorek Talk External Image 05:00, 30 December 2015 (CET)

What is a "set"?

So, I removed the Accessory set as I'm unsure whether to consider it a proper set or not. But really there's a whole can of worms here.

As mentioned there's the accessory sets, but then there's also to consider whether 6637 Ultimate Battle Set should be considered one, or if it's a collection. It has a low, four-digit set number, and the parts are all in a tub, unlike most collections that afaik have a box containing the sets in their individual packaging.

Then there's 3287 Takutanuva which is again, a 4-digit set number, but but also kind of a collection set. I'd distinguish it from say, 10203 Voporak as that is in the same line of set numbers as 10201 Takutanuva.

Obviously anything that starts with K is a collection. The Korean Piraka combiners however, both of which currently present in the Nav, are in the 66100's, which seem to also be comprised of Co-Packs, making them probably collections.

And then there's clocks & watches. The watches, especially for 2001 are very illusive, but besides that, both the clocks and watches include parts or even assemblies, and seem to be produced by LEGO, in contrast to the pens, which were outsourced... ~ Wolk (talk) 09:17, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

At some point we have to make a delineation that's separate from LEGO. Every item sold by LEGO has some sort of "set" number, which may or may not be the same as its "product" number (see: the 2016 polybags). The BOOKS have a set number, as do the pens, as do the shoes, etc. Sometimes these numbers get a hyper-specific designation (like starting with "T" for the shirts), but not always.
The idea was, when making the sets page, to group them into simple categories, which could each get their own pages (obviously that hasn't happened for everything) for easy classification. Individual pages can note outliers or exceptions, but LEGO has changed how they categorize things many times over the years on the websites, so we don't necessarily need to adhere to everything they do, as long as it's understandable to the reader. -- Dorek Talk 20:00, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Slizer & Roboriders

Should we add Slizers & Roboriders to this nav, or should we make separate sets navs for those two? ~ Wolk (talk) 02:10, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

I think they can go on here, easy enough. -- Dorek Talk 02:26, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
