Translation
Ok I did a little research, and spherus magna translated from latin means, I kid you not, Ball Great. Anyone have any comments? (The preceding unsigned comment was made by Makuta hordika)
- Technically, it should be Spherus Magnus, but you are indeed correct. "Aqua magna" also means "great water," "vorox" means "devourer," and "perditus" means "having been destroyed," for example. A lot of the names from BIONICLE, particularly in the later years, were either derived directly from Latin or were clearly influenced by Latin ("atakus," for example, is not a Latin word but "-us" is a valid Latin ending). -- Morris the Mata Nui Cow (talk) 15:47, 5 June 2013 (PDT)
- Edit: "ατακός" means "naughty" in Greek but when Romanized becomes "atakus," which means that Greek could have also been an inspiration for some other names. - Technically technically it's still "great ball (sphere)" because in Latinate languages, the adjective comes after the noun.
