Talk:Iruini

From BIONICLEsector01

EYE-roo-NEE?

The infobox says his name is pronounced EYE-roo-NEE, but Norik says it like IH-roo-NEE in BIONICLE 3: Web of Shadows. The consistency between the movies and the encyclopedias. Like, a lot. Plus some words and names that are written very similarly that are pronounced oddly differently. But is the pronunciation of Iruini's name included in any encyclopedia books, and is it actually listed as EYE-roo-NEE there? Or am I missing something here and is EYE not pronounced the same way as the eyes on my face? Also, I know I'm posting an awful lot of messages on talk pages about pronunciations, but it is something that really interests me. That and linguistics :) --Luka1184 (talk) 22:43, 23 May 2015 (CEST)

Encyclopedia is generally what we go by. Much like everything else in this pedantic fanbase of ours, people can't seem to accept that different people are going to do (pronounce) things differently based on a whole host of factors, like dialect, region, etc. So if it's written down, that's generally the most "official". -- Dorek Talk External Image 23:22, 23 May 2015 (CEST)
I get that, but I'd imagine most people living around the same area would pronounce most things almost the same. And most characters we've seen are from Metru Nui/Mata Nui. And most people there pronounce all "I"s as "Ih". Back in 2001-2003 most of BIONICLE's orthography had pretty rigid rules about letter pronunciations, where As were "Ah", Is were "Ih", Es were "Ey" etc. (But maybe it was because it was influenced greatly by the Maôri and other indigenous language) So sometimes these dastric changes doesn't make sense to my overly logical mind :P I'm sorry for taking the storyline of a kid's toyline too serious :) On a similar note, I've asked on the Chat with Greg Farshtey topic on the LMBs how you pronounce Rhotuka, since we have no pronunciation for it. Let's see if he wants to anser that :) --Luka1184 (talk) 14:32, 24 May 2015 (CEST)
Is Rhotuka not in the encyclopedia? I've always pronounced it row (like the boat) tuke (like fluke) ah. -- Dorek Talk External Image 18:14, 24 May 2015 (CEST)
